Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Giraffes

They hold a batchelor group. Can't tell you any more than that sorry.

Knowsley have a batchelor herd. There are 3 individuals, hybrids, and I'm sure 2 of them came from Chester. They used to have 5 animals, but i think space was a problem, and they did have a pure breed (rothschild probably) that was sent out for breeding..i think!

They did have trouble with one of them with his feet (Marcus...?)

Yeah. I saw three wen I visited. 2 are brothers, and 1 is their half brother. I'm assuming Thorn is their dad.

Thorn is not the father of any of the ones at Knowsley,if it is a male from Chester its more likely to be the late Cormac (I think i`ve spelt that right).

When I went a month or so ago, there was a sign saying that the giraffes are not on the drive due to the weather...

The giraffes were out on the Safari; however giraffes like the warmth and it was too windy and cold for them out on the Safari.

They currently hold 3 males all born at Chester.

Oliver born 8th June 2000
Rigsby born 7th November 2001
Jester born 13th May 2000

All hybrids. ;)

Maybe when it first opened in the 70's but the current giraffes where the first giraffe's at the safari park for quite a few years, and I've been going since I was a kid, so at least 20 years!

When i was on work exp there a few years ago, i did ask the question as to why the giraffe's are not in the safari drive, and was told that giraffe's are not the most intelligent of creatures, and would stand out in the frost etc, and it would be hard to get them in of a night, also the factor of them breaking their legs as well.

Sadly, Jester recently passed away due to heart faliure according to the park's Facebook page

A new hybrid male named Bo is arriving from South Lakes in April

Another hybrid male was Oisin ex Belfast. What is his current status?

And for what it is worth: they used to have a pure bred only reticulata in Marcus. He currently retired?
