I honestly don't know which area myself. I either read it or heard about it. I have a feeling I heard about it on the cd or cassette tape you could buy which you would play in your car when driving around the safari. If you drove at the right speed a narration on each of the areas/zones was described as you made your journey along the route, it was pretty good.


When I first started going regularly the tigers were always housed as you say. Except to me it will always be known as, to the right before you enter the lions!!
 
Knowsley safari now have a new app which is definitely better than the old one but one thing to note is that instead of the bongo being in section five it shows the sitatunga. Has anyone seen the sitatunga in this enclosure. I hope the bongo haven't left as thelat is another species lost.

Zone 5 is showing Blesbok & Bongo on my app
 
Now I have the new app I've noticed @Keelan is correct in that Blesbok & Bongo no longer feature.

Anyone have any confirmation that they have left the park?

I can confirm that the two Bongo departed from Knowsley around a month ago. A brand new house has been constructed in Zone 5 with the Sitatunga moving over last week. I have never actually seen a Blesbok in Zone 5 in all of my many visits over the last few years so I think they must have left the collection some time ago.
 
Sad news about another species leaving. Could do with more arrivals that departures. The blesbok did live in zone five as I saw them a few times but years ago. The past few times I have seen them they were in the enclosure behind where the zebras are now in zone 2.
 
Didn't the Sitatunga live around the railway area? Sad news that Bongo are now another to add to the list of former species

There were some Blesbok (I think one male and 2 females) housed at the back of the Zebra house last year. I was told at the time that they were being housed temporarily at Knowsley as they were in transit between two collections. (In hindsight they may have been Blesbok from the Knowsley collection).

The Sitatunga were housed in a fenced off area on the left hand side as you entered Zone 3, the first of the Africa paddocks (next to the large house that used to be used by Wild Arena). It will definitely be nice to be able to get a better view of them, although it’s a shame it is at the expense of losing the Bongo.

There is quite a lot of work on the foot safari to expand the viewing areas around the paddock thar houses the Tapir, Capybara and Vicuña (next to the railway line). I don’t think this will be the last of the investment on the Foot Safari and this will hopefully facilitate the arrival of a new species to the collection sometime in the future.

On the Drive Knowsley appear to be prioritising improving the quality of the existing animal houses before they add any new species. Knowsley are now down to just a single male Bison (the other males being moved on to other collections over the course of this/last year). This will allow the park to introduce some female Bison which would be a really good move.
 
I really hope that things start to pick up for knowsley now. Since the elephants left it just hasn't felt the same. It is now highly unlikely that these will return but hopefully we will see many others arrive. I still hope that one day the zebras will move into a bigger reserve. Perhaps the sitatunga move will allow for the zebras to be put u to there old enclosure so that they can be slowly introduced to the African animals. Who knows. I'd love to see the ankole return. It would be good for the kiang to be allowed onto the drive again. Perhaps even the return of the plains zebra to show the difference between the species. More carnivores would also be welcome. Hopefully a very bright future ahead.

I agree that the current positioning of the Zebra is far from optimal. I really hope that they can be relocated into the Africa section.

The Kiang do still make occasional outings onto the drive but when this does happen the Zebra are kept inside their house.

1:0 Bongo has moved to Watatunga on a "temporary loan" as a breeding bull. When he's been successful he will then move on to another collection when needed.
 
Would love to know what happened to all the big game that Knowsley used to have. When I last went there were herds of Wildebeest, Ankole Cattle, American Bison, Blesbok I think as well and the whole park was full of life. Now it seems half empty when driving round. Big disappointment that the elephants never managed to return as was such an iconic part of the safari at the end

Find this surprising, as he is the only Bongo that Watatunga have, so unless they plan to bring in a female, I'm not sure what he is there to breed with ...
