It's funny how we were just saying about new species towards that side of the park. Not quite the hippo we were hoping for but it'll do! :D

Haha exactly:D you never know what else they have planned(probably no more new animals haha) I'll settle for sheep & goats :D

What do you think of them adding another carnivore to the drive in the enclosure where the tigers and wolves used to be. Bring the wolves back to the foot safari and add maybe cheetah, hyena, african wild dog or maybe even asian wild dog. What do you think of this @Embu as this would sort of solve the carnivores problem on the drive. Personally, I think a primate would be a good idea to addition to the foot safari.

Personally I would love to see african wild dogs back at Knowsley and I also think the old tiger enclosure on the safari drive could be used as space for another large carnivore rather than more space for the lions and I hope the wolves move back to the foot safari soon

Any regular followers of this thread(Knowsley threads) will know my opinion on this :D
* the wolves should be on the foot safari where their enclosure was built
*Cheetah &/or hyena would be the best additions Knowsley could add, major attraction & would curb complaints
*African wild dog would be also welcome instead of(surplus males perhaps)
I do fear they'll never make any changes(maybe the family want to quietly run the place down & eventually close the safari(this is just my opinion btw no truth in it whatsoever)
Anyhow hopefully they'll add some more new arrivals seen as they've already started

Has anyone been recently and seen the new area open? Is it any good?

Yeah it was actually an old post by you that made me bring this subject back up to see is anyone had anything new to share. I do remember the wild dogs and remember how sad it was to visit again and have them not be there. Cheetahs would be a great addition to the drive as it would fit with the african theme as they'd be near the lions. :)

The tigers are occasionally in their. I assume this is to separate the different genders while having more animals on the drive.

They only have 2 males now, obviously they can't live together so one will be on the drive through & I suppose in Knowsley's eyes , it shuts people up complaining about lack of animals on drive.

It's a cheap way of having "more carnivores" without actually spending any £ to bring in new species(clever marketing).
It would be interesting though to know what the long term plan for the Tigers is, presumably Makari is well represented(think it's been mentioned on here before) so is just here as surplus, Miron is genetically valuable(I believe) but doesn't always mix well with females. So possibly both are just here as a holding facility

Yeah it works to some degree and I can see why they'd do this. I don't have very high expectations for Knowsley anymore as their big changes are just moving the same animals around or just adding a petting zoo. I remember being really excited (after the sadness lol) after the elephants left to see what they'd do with the large area. It just sits abandoned now like an empty field. I hope some big changes come after the success of the tigers.

I hope Mikari will be introduced to a female soon, as he isn’t that well represented as his mum dad only had one litter together! Which was mikari and his 2 brothers…They have had additional litter with other tigers his dad has, unsure of mum but neither of his Brothers have successfully managed to have partner tiger so I hope in time it’s different from him..
As their is Longleat female Yuki same age and Colchester zoo I think have a younger female tiger but can’t be certain….

Yes, 4 year old Tatana has recently been separated from her mother (Taiga), currently they are the only two tigers at Colchester. Her two brothers moved to Port Lympne I believe.

I was reading an old Knowsley safari guide book (2013) and comparing it to a more recent edition (2021). The variation has also halved. No elephants, wild dogs, cape buffalo or forest buffalo just to name a few. The safari needs a serious re-think. My 2017 version shows the gradual decrease in species.

Forest buffalo are still at the park. They can be found in zone 4 with the rhino's Ostrich and lechwe.

Also I was looking on zootierliste today and it says that knowsley holds common Emu, greater rhea, grants zebra and Indian peafowl. I believe that have held all of these species before so it will be nice if they are all back again.

How up to date is zootierliste though? Grants zebra left a few years ago to be replaced with a pair of Grevys & I don't ever remember seeing(so probably before my first ever visits) Emu,Rhea or Indian Peafowl

I would say quite up to date because it also lists the Bagot goats, soay sheep and Cameroon sheep. The peafowl used to be free roaming but the last time I saw them was before covid hit. The Emu have lived in numerous places such as where the bison live currently, zone 2/8 of the safari and the last time they were at the park they lived at the equatorial trail. Rheas also used to live on the equatorial trail but I think they left around the same time the elephants did in 2017. I know the grevys zebra replaced the plains and for a while it still said that knowsley still held plains zebra for quite some time after they left. They were then taken off but have come back on again. Given the fact it lists the new goats and sheep I would say this is very up to date.

I've just had a look (I may have this completely wrong) but it looks as though they've added the animals, mentioned as above, but not delisted old species.
