Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Safari Park 2024

2yr old White rhino Amara has undergone surgery in a world first earlier this year. Having broken her front leg she had surgery and is now fully recovered. Her front leg still looks wonky but she's walking normally.

not exactly minor rhinoplasty :)

Amazing news
Whereas I applaud the vet's intervention and the surgery result, I wonder what the long term prognosis or development of the youngster might be as she is still very much growing rapidly...

should be much better than if she was a several ton adult

Another new addition, at least the 2nd maybe 3rd calf born in last couple of years

Say hello to our newest little arrival...

Our roan antelope herd has a new calf! This little girl is already out exploring in the Africa section. As she grows older, her face colours will develop into a classic roan mask pattern

Sad news from Knowsley:

"It is with sadness we share the loss of Froja, our 14-and-a-half-year-old female European Moose.
Froja enjoyed a long life here at Knowsley Safari however in her final months, she began to experience age-related symptoms, which our expert animal team managed carefully. Sadly, on Tuesday, she was found to have passed away peacefully of natural causes.
Froja was a truly unique and much-loved animal who was a firm favourite among guests and keepers alike. Her distinctive character brought daily joy to the entire team who had the pleasure of closely working with her.
She will be greatly missed by all staff and visitors."

Knowsley Safari

Very sad about Froja, such an iconic animal that myself and I'm sure everyone else off here who visited would scan the woodland to look for her whilst driving through.

Sad news for keepers & visitors, however I hope they don't get any more.
There have been signs up on the relatively new Nature Trail section of the foot safari to highlight a new area where Moose will be located, so it does appear there is a long term plan for Moose at Knowsley

Not that I'm overly excited about them continuing with moose however if they are to be kept back on the foot safari woodland then that's the best place for them.

I welcome this move from the current area. I have this wee recollection that - correct me if I am wrong - the moose have never really done quite well at Knowsley. The reason for this is not known by us... I just wonder what your perspectives are on this?

From my recollection, they originally received 0,2 from Highland Wildlife Park, one of those being the female who recently passed away. At one point (2015/16?), they acquired a male (I believe) when they lived down on the foot safari before the single female was eventually moved up to the Safari drive.

Can anyone remember what is now the tiger enclosure on foot safari used to be?

Did it house anything originally or was the foot safari just extended when it was built?
