Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Safari Park News 2018

Shame they are not in a drive past section (obviously drive through is a no no) but they would definitely be a huge incentive for more visitors as they are one of the big 5. As long as small improvements keep being made Knowsley will become an amazing day out again even in winter

You can see them from the drive through section only. but you need to know where to look :D.
(I cant promise at the time of writing this they are still there).

They’re no longer there. They used to be on the drive through section near the cars until they acquired the bull.

Tau mentioned seeing fawns this year in your blackbuck thread, so I think that suggests there is a male :)
Photo from June, although I see they are not on the park's website

Yes, thankyou for including the photo. I knew there must be a breeding male if there are fawns, but last year I saw only young males, presumably one has matured now. Pleased to see they still have a good herd. Thanks for taking the photo.

Knowsley still currently hold two cape buffalo in the 'first reserve' in that seperate paddock. It also looks like they can get to the wooded area behind where there is a big shelter. Maybe they spend time here which means they aren't easy to see.

Sorry yes should of re worded that it was his aggression which led to them being moved off show

Does anybody know if white rhinos Winnie & Piglet have stopped breeding ? Neither have seem to of produced a calf since 2012 so just wondered whether this is permanent or whether something else.

I believe Winnie and Piglet are no longer breeding, and I also got told today piglet has become very aggressive lately
There are two mature Male blackbuck
The park recently acquired 1:2 yak.

Oh gosh I should of posted that two weeks ago, I was there doing a course and was told About them... oops

Having only visited here in January & February I was hoping to visit before Xmas, is there more of a variety of animals on show in the Autumn than in Jan & Feb ?

Impossible to say, depends what and who is out and about and playing the on show game! If a mild Autumn day you should see plenty of animals out on safari rather than housed up, which makes the drive more pleasurable generally. If you can choose your day at short notice when to visit, I highly recommend a windy day. The wind often stirs things up generally, bug cats and ungulates, but especially the blackbucks in my experience. Once they start running and leaping its a great sight to see, they are so very very fast. Probably the fastest animal I have ever seen in the flesh. Also, if it does rain, your car is probably safe in the baboon area as the critters stay sheltered rather than break up cars....

0:1 Forest Buffalo has been born and there is a public vote to name her. Choices are:

Belle- beautiful, official language of DR of Congo - French
Sipho- gift in African language Xhosa
Juniper- youth in Latin
Amira- princess in Arabic

Amira, let's just cut to the chase and call her princess I assume the buffalo in question is female ?

Granted but don't you think sometimes we could do with out a name that means something to some body else in another language and just go with something native to his / hers origin a few more Gary's, Claire's, Stuart's, Jessica's or even a Colin won't go a miss I mean an Arabian princess, she's a buffalo, no offence miss buffalo if your reading :-)

  • Have the Vicuna definitely left the collection or are they getting ready to move to the foot safari ? The old giraffe exhibit will become their new home apparently and become a South American exhibit possibly with the capybara. The giraffe will eventually move into the old elephant enclosure so the Blesbok & Scimiter Horned Oryx will join them.
  • They definitely need to add more carnivores to the drive through, African Wild Dogs would be a great addition plus they have the space.
  • The European Moose/Elk isn`t getting another partner so she may have moved to another collection
  • Warthogs I feel would be good for the drive through as they love a good old mud bath (especially this time of year would be ideal)
  • Gemsbok to replace the Blesbok & Scimiter Horned Oryx section on drive through.
  • I do feel the old tiger enclosure was wasted being added to the existing lion enclosure. This could be ideal for another species of carnivore
