Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Safari Park news 2022

Thanks @Maguari, I know it sounded like a stupid question but I wasn't sure.

Anyone know how many Blesboks currently live at Knowsley?

The three new Blesbok that recently arrived are the only ones I’ve seen at the park for some time. One of the new Blesbok does have the striking white blaze. 8FBDEAC9-F387-46BC-A020-47DF897B5E50.jpeg

There was definitely one when I last visited in August 2021 (thought I saw a 2nd in the house but that was a glimpse) however these could have died so new stock could gave been brought in to replace. Id love to see some more individuals arrive to create a large group but new animals are always a plus here.

I think there likely was back then but I’ve seen no sign of any in the last 6 months or so. I would also like to see d a boost in number of Roan Antelope. There appears to be only two of them and they never stray far from the antelope house. I got as close to one of them as I have in a long time today and it was still only about 20 metres from their house. 67B353AA-8087-4EA5-AF60-D15FC7B27BFE.jpeg

As I haven't been to knowsley for around 6 years now since before the elephants left do they still have the cape buffalo because I saw somewhere that they had been taken off the drive for some reason

There are no Cape buffalo on the drive but on zootierlise it states that they still keep them. They currently have Congo buffalo on the drive

So I have visited 3 times since 2015ish and I've never seen the Cape Buffalo. It does seem a waste as they could have been moved into the old elephant enclosure(I know it's not on the drive through) but I feel this would have been a great enclosure for them. It personally would have been a good exhibit for them.

Perhaps knowsley is a huge place but with so few animals for example the old tiger enclosure and old wolf enclosure could be used for another carnivore species

Hopefully Amur tiger Bira, has/is due to to move this week or next which will then mean there is space in the carnivore section for a new species. Unsure if a new species has been sought or whether it will lay empty for the time being. The wolves are due to return to the foot safari soon if not already.

Does anyone know when Bira (tiger) is due to move to Ireland? Just wondering if I could get one last visit to see her if she's not gone

When I spoke to the keepers on Tuesday they said they still hadn’t got a definite date because the paper work to facilitate the move was yet to come through (complexities of UK no longer being in the EU).

Who would like Knowlesley’s Elephant enclosure to reopen as an Elephant Sanctuary? I think Knowlesley is the ideal location for the Asian Belfast Cowes. In addition I’m sure there’s many other Elephants in the world that would benefit from living at Knowlesley.

Thanks @BillBoy80. I do forget the Brexit issues, just because Ive moved on from debacle I forget how much of a nuisance it must be for animal movement.
I suppose the longer she stays at Knowsley the more chance visitors get to see her so at least there's a plus side to it.

hi, i am visiting this park tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any information on a few things for me.
1. has Bira moved on to her new collection yes
2. have the wolves moved back onto the foot safari
3. have the zebra moved to one of the drive through reserves
4. are the ostrich back out onto the safari drive
5. are there any other new arrivals i should look out for
thanks in advance

Bira was there when I last visited
The wolves were still on the drive through though o didn't see them the first time however when I went the second time I saw a wolf shape in the enclosure so I think they're still in the drive

When i last visited the grevy zebra were in there usual drive past enclosure and the plains were still on the drive not sure on the ostriches because I didn't see them last time
