Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Safari Park news 2022

Both ideas I think seem clausable. If I remember a few years ago they had a few male elephants from Dublin zoo while further plans were made for there new homes. Although I don't think that there will be elephants there is always a possibility. I would just like to see something different at knowsley. Seems like ages since there was a new species. All that has happened over the past few years is departures. For example Elephants, plains zebra, the emu, ankole cattle, barashinga and possibly more. I think the last new species to arrive was the grevys zebra but they are just kept in the small paddock in the first zone.
 
In fairness the Grevy zebra only replaced the Grants so were a replacement rather than a new species.
 
Did we ever work put what was happening regarding the bats? Is the enclosure still closed or have they gone completely? Seems a shame if they are no longer, seem to be a crowd puller, plus are the emu definitely no longer here?
 
I think the bat cave is still there but unsure about the bat's. I'm quite sure the emu is no longer there also as the info board is down and haven't seen it for ages
 
I hope your not implying that Knowlesley Safari Park have stopped keeping Bats. Bats are a wonderful species to have at an animal attraction. Despite the tales of Bats being villainous Blood sucking creatures they really aren’t. On the contry Bats are cute and peaceful creatures. Furthermore Bats are fascinating to watch no matter your age. My Sister used to enjoy watching the Bats at Longleat. She was only 2-5 years of age. I get the feeling that collections especially Safari Parks are phasing out Bats. Knowlesley is the 3rd English Safari Park after West Midland Safari Park and Longleat,to remove Bats.
 
I agree that it would be a shame of the bat's have left. I always thought that the bat cave at knowsley was a really good exhibit. Though it wasn't a massive area it was perfect for the bat's they have.

No worries - the exhibit was (of course) closed for a time during peak Covid so maybe that's where the idea came from.

The yak family seems to have done so well at knowsley and long may it continue. Great to see as the yaks were only introduced 4 years ago I think so in a short space of time have now had 6 offspring

I'm persuming Bira the tiger is still on the drive through? Havent heard of her departure.

Do we know if any new species are planned in the coming year?

Nice news about the Yak calves lovely to see youngsters of any species on the drive through.
 
Bira was still there when I last visited a couple of weeks ago. Unsure of any new animal arrivals but I doubt it. There are animals which I woukd like to see return but I doubt that they will

Yes Bira is still here (as of yesterday). I will try and get an update on what is happening with the planned move to Ireland. Here are some images of Bira from last week. As you say they really have been a successful breeding group :)

Whipsnade use to have a successful breeding group back in the day but unfortunately as with other hoof stock herds gone

The most recent Whipsnade Animal Inventory lists eleven yak at Whipsnade as at 1st January 2022.
