I know they've got a bunch of projects on tap, but has there been any word of them once again using the koala house as some sort of exhibit space?
Many possibilities for the fromer koala house have been discussed, most of which involve dramatically refurbishing the space so that it presents more of an immersion-like experience with an assortment of species in a naturalistic setting that would offer zoo visitors a lush slice of life from down under.
That'd be nice if the tassie devil import happens some day. I read that Albuquerque has an exhibit ready and waiting for them, just waiting for the ability to import some.
We came away from the workshop with a better understaning of the Tasmanian Devil, as well as knowledge about how to properly house, handle, and manage these amazing animals. We are hopeful that by the end of the year the Los Angeles Zoo will receive the approval to acquire some Tasmanian Devils for our Australian collection. In the meantime, plans are moving forward and donors are being sought to fund new dens that will be ready for the devil's arrival.
i am liking at the moment Koalas being kept in walkthrough aviaries with birds maybe that would be an option for them
Tasmanian devils are wonderful animals to see in the flesh, but bilbies are also remarkable creatures that are Australia's equivalent of the Easter Bunny. Huge, floppy ears and long noses and tails...it would be terrific to see some end up in Los Angeles.
Has it been tried at other zoos before? How did it work? Wouldn't some birds be a threat to the Koalas?
the first koala I saw in the wild was sitting in a tree in the middle of a black flying fox colonySomeone I know in Melbourne has Koalas mixed with Curlews, Kookaburras, Tawny Frogmouths and Fruit Bats.
