Belfast and now 2 at Krefeld for a species where husbandry is complex and establishing compatible pairings is an even greater art. The EEP for the species is definitely on the up now!

You mean the first breeding for Krefeld ? Frankfurt has bred them for the first time in 1981, but I don't know, if this was the european first.

Apologies :o I should have said first breeding for Krefeld - thanks for the correction

You welcome. But I also would like to know, which zoo has the european first breeding of that species. With some new holders, it seems, there is a little bit of hope for them in europe.

At the beginning of last week a Chimpanzee was unexpectily born to female Menolly. It was born however dead but left with the mother. Several days she walked around with the dead baby but on Friday she laid it away and the keepers could remove it :(.

As stated before Frankfurt had the German first breeding 1981 and the European first breeding was archieved at Rotterdam Zoo 1978.

Work started for the building of the new Black rhino enclosure. The Bat-eared fox-enclosure and a turtle-pool were destroyed to enlarge the rhino-area from now 900 squar meter to 2000 squar meter when it is finished. This should be for the end of 2015.

I'm thinking that part of the current pathway will also be converted into the newly enlarged rhino area?
Any idea if the elephants will get a bigger area in time?
