Last weekend my second visit to Landgoed Hoenderdaell. Here some obsevations and notes from this visit :
Young animals :
2 almost full-grown young by the Red-crowned cranes ( see
Young Red-crowned crane | ZooChat )
1 hand-raised Crowned crane ( see
Young Crowned crane | ZooChat )
at least one young Golden-headed lion tamarin
several young Scarlet ibisses ( see
Young Scarlet ibis | ZooChat )
Further seen a lot of species which are not mentioned for this collection on Zootierliste :
- Tamandua in the Tropical House (
Tamandua | ZooChat )
- Six-banded armadillo - at least 3 specimens seen in the Tropical House ( see
Six-banded armadillo | ZooChat )
- Red fox - 1 specimen ( see
Red fox | ZooChat )
- Emerald glossy starling - 1 specimen seen free-flying in the Tropical House ( not signed ) ( see

- Napoleon bishop - a nice group of this species in one of the outdoor-aviaries of the Bird-house ( see
Napoleon bishop | ZooChat )
- Yellow-billed stork - A bird which was wild-caught in the Netherlands ( escaped ) which found a new home at Hoenderdaell in one of the large outdoor-aviaries ( see
Yellow-bill | ZooChat )
- Blackbuck - 2 males seen and althrough it was already mentioned earlier in this thread, it still is not mentioned on Zootierliste..... ( see
Blackbuck | ZooChat )
-Steller's sea-eagle - 2 seen in a huge aviary at the new bird-of prey complex ( see
Enclosure Steller's sea-eagle | ZooChat )
- White-tailed sea-eagle - also already mentioned earlier in this thread but still not on Zootierliste - kept in a large aviary at the Bird-of-prey complex ( see
White-tailed sea-eagle | ZooChat )
- Black kite - small group at the Bird of prey complex ( see
Black kites | ZooChat )
- Southern ground-hornbill - 3 very young birds in an aviary at the bird-of prey complex ( see
Young Southern ground-hornbill | ZooChat )
- Southern crested caracara - at the bird of prey complex ( see
Southern crested caracara | ZooChat )
- Red-tailed hawk - at the Bird of prey complex ( see

Of the rare species kept at Hoenderdaell I only saw one Golden-necked cassowary althrough there are 2 enclosures. The gate between the 2 enclosures was opened so I'm affraid there is only one bird left - or maybe ( hopefully ) the other bird was in one of the sheds. ( see
Golden-necked cassowary | ZooChat )
Of the second species kept only at Hoenderdaell in an European public collection - the Green jungle-fowl I also was able to see only 1 specimen - a female was free-ranging in the Tropical House and altrough I searched for some time to find a male I didn't found it. There are however several good hidding-places here so here also possible that there is a second bird ( see
Green jungle-fowl - female | ZooChat )
Species mentioned on Zootierliste which I was not able to find - due to the cold weather maybe housed in inside - not public areas - were:
Red-faced liocichla
Livingstone's touraco
Hartlaub touraco
