Just discovered that there are still 3 gigantic African bulls in zoos that are more in line with the size of the extinct Loxodonta adaurora from the Pliocene! I was lucky to have seen Willy in Cleveland but these guys are even bigger!!!

44 year old Calimero at Safaripark Beekse Bergen is 11.2 ft tall and weighs 13,860 lbs.

50 year old Yossi at Ramat Gan Zoo is 12.1 ft tall and weighs 15,400 lbs.

42 year old Carl at Zoo Tallinn is 12.3ft tall and weighs 12,000 lbs.

44 year old Calimero at Safaripark Beekse Bergen is 11.2 ft tall and weighs 13,860 lbs.

Calimero weighs even more than that. In 2019, for example, he weighed 16,730 lbs! He is the heaviest African elephant in Europe.

 

[Golden Takin]

Bobo at Chongqing zoo weighs 6345kg (13988 lbs) according to an old report nearly twenty years ago, and believed to be the heaviest of all asian elephants in China. I assume it should be much heavier now.
