Chester Zoo Lazy Summer Evening

I'll be there!
It's a shame that I can't make it. I have already met a couple of zoochatters and after a very joyous (and educational) day with them I would feel privilaged to meet more of you. I will definatley attend events like this when I start driving though, so fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow and that the zoo will think about doing things like this again (maybe they could make it an annual event if it is popular this year?).

Gentle Lemur I may have seen you many years ago. There was someone photographing the gnus using a camera on a monopod, or as my friend called it once, a one-legged tripod.

I might have even seen you at Chester three years ago(my last visit
) as I noticed several guys with 'big lenses' around the Elephant area. Regarding the 'Lazy Summer Evening' event- presumably to fit this theme people must lie around on the grass and be too 'lazy' to go around looking at the animals.

Just got back from the zoo very wet and cold but had a great time. Managed to see both of the Bears together feeding managed to get a few pictures of them through the rain which i will upload later or tomorrow morning depending on how long it takes. No sign of any of the Cheetah or Tigers and only briefly saw Iblis. No many of the animals were out mostly due to the weather spent the last hour and a half of the evening in the elephant house watching the elephants and talking to Eveline De Wolf who is team leader of the elephants who i found to be a lovely lady who was very aproachable and genouous with her time spending over an hour talking to us and was happy to answer any question i had.
I'm not the only person who uses a monopod, so it may not have been me! I don't usually shoot the elephants with a telephoto (although I did this afternoon) and I certainly haven't shot gnu at Chester for many many years, although I remember that they were in the paddock where the rhea and vicuna are now.
Regrettably today's event was wet summer evening but it was nice to shelter from the rain with some ZooChatters, while the sound of the steel band was competing with the rain drops. It was a good opportunity to see a few animals in active mode. There were five tuataras out of their burrows and one of the Mexican beaded lizards was climbing on the artificial vines in its enclosure - unfortunately it found out that its tail was not as prehensile as it hoped, and it landed straight on its nose, without any apparent ill-effects.

It was wet, but was worth the trip! Saw quite a few birds that dont seem to show their faces during my day trips in the Tropical Realm... Also saw the Beaded Lizard move for the first time in my life!
The band was exellent, even if we did listen to them from a distance whislt eating burgers! I hope it takes place again next year, and the weathers better!

Wish I had been there, sounds lik you guys all had a brilliant time . Out of interest, did anybody find out any news (animal related or anything else) that they are able to share? Introductions, arrivals, plans, developments etc?

Had a lovely evening inspite of the rain. Only saw SMR as we were leaving of Zoochatters, but we had some quality time with Asha and Iblis. The were playing together and Asha was being very flirty. They both came right up close, Asha is a bit disconcerting when she's looking right at you as she is vocalising.
Spent a lot of time watching the elephants, Nayan was having fun climbing onto a log, sliding off, climbing back up, he was making very loud slurpy noises attempting to feed from Thi, he was also trying to feed from the wrong end of his sister. He then flaked out under the net of food, some of which fell on him, it was amazing to see how carefully they trod round the sleeping baby as they ate the food off him.

I thought that may have been you but wasnt sure didnt want to go over an say hi and make a complete fool of myself twice in one night after saying hi to somebody thinking it was Gentle Lemur only to be greeted by a look of complete distain from the gentleman
Oooops! It wasn't me - I hope that nobody is unlucky enough to be my double!

I kept looking at men with grey beards to see if they also had a big lens but none did.
