Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari

I just found out that wild animal Safari in Pine Mountain, GA has a herd of Gaur. Here's a video with their eldest bull, Big Boss:
Wild Animal Wednesday: Gaur
Looks like I'll have to add it to the places I need to visit!

The location in Missouri also seems to have them. Definitely is interesting to see them standing so close to a gaur unprotected. From what I have seen of them it’s definitely not a great idea.

Maybe its just me, but Big Boss in his old age looks remarkably like a Banteng bull in his prime in terms of his physical definition and horn boss.

Has anyone ever seen a master plan for the Lee G Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari? It is not included in the Omaha Zoo master plan document from 2010, the most recent master plan.

An article appeared in today's Omaha World-Herald about the Tiger Conservation Center located at the Simmons Safari Park. The article should be free to read, if its not, let me know and I can remove the link.

It talks about how they have 4 females and 2 males, with one of the males, Diesel, having the most diverse genes of any tiger in the United States since both parents were wild.

Very glad to hear they have it up and running, it was behind schedule on my 2018 visit. It's a nice facility, but resembles a prison a bit because of the fencing :D The cheetahs don't need the wires at the top or anything like the tigers do.

Nebraska's Simmons Safari Park bison herd grows with birth of calf

OMAHA -- The bison herd at the Simmons Safari Park in Ashland grew by one with the birth of a calf last month.

The auburn-colored calf was born May 11 and can be seen roaming Bison Plains with its mother and herd. Bison calves turn dark brown a few months after birth, the same time their characteristic hump and horns start to grow.

Because the mother has been caring for her baby, keepers haven’t directly interacted with the calf yet and do not know if it is male or female.

Since its opening in 1998, the safari park has worked to conserve bison and educate the public about the threats facing the native species, according to a news release. The calf makes for a total of 32 bison at the park.

In addition to the bison herd, the park is home to a variety of animals, including more than 60 American elk spread across the 50-acre Elk Meadow, American white pelicans, white-tailed deer, sandhill cranes and trumpeter swans.

In the latest ZooPrints magazine mailed to zoo members, Dennis Pate announced a couple of additional births at the Zoo and Safari Park, and @TinoPup you should be happy that 3 Cheetah cubs have been born here at the Cheetah Conservation Center.

Wonderful!!! Thank you so much for tagging me.

Visited today for the first time this season. A couple updates below.

Birds are still off display except for the bald eagles, a great horned owl, and a pair of barred owls.

The only terrarium that is in the visitors center is a Tiger salamander one. When my wife asked an employee in there if the other terrariums are being located to the new education building she answered she didn’t know. They packed up other terrariums at the end of last season. The new education building by the bald eagle aviary was closed.

The biggest benefit of visiting this time of year is the leaves haven’t grown in on the trees yet so we can check on the status of everyone’s burning question every year here: yes, there are still Gaur behind the scenes. I could make out at least 10 it looked like.

According to a zoo e-mail, the Safari Park will be getting dinosaurs next year. I know a bunch of folks on this site will love this . I guess now when I go, the Jurassic Park music I usually play in my car while driving through here will be more apt I suppose.

"Something JURASSIC is arriving at Wildlife Safari Park in 2023!
Jurassic Adventure, an all-new added experience featuring some of the world's largest and most life-like robotic dinosaurs, is coming to Wildlife Safari Park on May 5, 2023.

Stay tuned as we go back in time to uncover more information about the dinosaurs we'll be bringing back to life. The dinosaurs will be scattered throughout the Park to provide visitors with an dinosaur-safari feel.

Jurassic Adventure will be included with Wildlife Safari Park admission, so make sure to renew your membership before these creatures come back from extinction!"
