Zoo Leipzig Leipzig zoo news 2010

Hi BjoernN,
Does the zoo have a definitive species list (if so can you share it)?
Are there any species the zoo are still unsure about (like Tarsier)?
What will replace the clouded leopard?
Will there be free flying birds in the building?
When will the zoo start planting and is the project still on target for its release date?

Thanks

- The planting will start next month.
- There will be some free flying birds.
- The exact release date will be announce in dezember.
- The zoo has a definitive species list (too large for thursday evening).
- The zoo is still unsure about tarsiers, pacarana and aye aye.
- The clouded leopards will be replaced by other asiatic species.

I'm full of Hope, Leipzig will get the Tarsiers. And there is again a rumour about a Sumatran-Rhino for Leipzig, but it is just a rumour..

Just a rumour....

Leipzig started an in-situ nature conservation program for the sumatran rhino subspecies at the Sabah National Park at island of kalimantan last year.

They support a research centre and several regional zoos.

Any idea which of the Twycross bonobos are due to travel up to Leipzig?

@Kifaru Bwana
A staff member of the Leipzig Max-Planck-Institution did not mention names, but I suppose "Jasongo", "Cheka", "Gemena" and the now born male....

The zoo is building a new and larger parking deck for Gondwanaland and the new conference centre. The construction works started in september.

This morning a british aircraft bomb from WWII was found, the workings stopped, the contiguous buildings were evakuated, the zoo was closed. A specilist team was able to deactivate the bomb in the afternoon.

The zoo announced, the costs of the construction works of Gondwanaland will increase up to 66 Mio. Euro. An important involved company declared bankruptcy, the financial disprofit is huge.

Zoo director Dr. Junhold, next president of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, pronounced:
- the planting will definitely start in december
- the construction works will be finished in march 2011
- the opening will happen in the third quarter 2011
