Two Nepalese red pandas were born thursday 14th - the first breeding at the zoo since 1995.

Two new tortoise species arrived at the zoo, both CR:

Masterplan 2.0 map (2013 - 2020)

There are some really nice design touches in that - historic structures preserved where possible/sensible, nice big sea bird aviary, and I love the idea of a Yellow-throated Marten Island!

All looks very good indeed (though I will miss the nice little Bird House).

Only thing I would say - I'm surprised to see no space for the Spectacled Bears (unless I'm being blind). Not a massive problem as the Sloth Bears will presumably still be there but surprises me nonetheless.

There are two large optional areas in the african section (beside the new Eastern black rhino house and the Asiatic forest) and one in the south american section (Maned wolf enclosure), maybe for Jaguars, Cougars or Spectacled bears in the future.

Are the owl-faced monkeys already in Gondwanaland?.I went to Leipzig zoo last June and i only saw the ones in the moneky house.
BjoernN,the indoor exhibit for african hunting dogs is inside the lions building?

@Alesmos, there is a pair of owl faced monkeys in Gondwanaland, in the same enclosure as the dikdiks (the second enclosure in the african section). A small group lives in the old monkey house.

One young brace (0,1 *2001 and 1,0 2005) in Gondwanaland, an older second brace (1,1 *1999) and a group of mum (*1996) and two kids (0,1 *2009 and 0,1 *2007) at the monkey house.

I myself am much more interested in what appears to be a mixed island exhibit for lion-tailed macaques and dhole!

Western lowlang gorilla male "Gorgo" (31), female "Bebe" (35) and the whole De Brazza monkey breeding group were shipped to Rostock (Zoo) today.

The Zoo is going to close the Monkey house for renovation works in winter 2012.

Bjoern (or anyone else) - with the opening of Gondwanaland last year, what were the attendance figures at the zoo for 2011? And how is 2012 looking so far? Is the impact that Gondwanaland initially had on visitor numbers still holding?

Diana monkey born to "Jack" (born 2005 at Gettorf) and "Monifa" (born 2005 at Leipzig) at Gondwanaland - the first Diana monkey offspring in Europe since 2010.

Gorilla male "Abeeku" (13) arrived at Leipzig from Opole in Poland yesterday to replace "Gorgo" and to breed with "Viringika" (17), "Kibara" (8), "Louna" (6) and "Zola" (4) in the future.

A male Pygmy lori arrived from Decin Zoo.

The zoo published that they are going to become the organising institution of the Primate Rescue Centre at Chuc Phuong National Park in vietnam next year. The zoo is already the biggest financial supporter and is sending keepers to vietnam every year to work there.

Two young Snow leopards died from an infection and eye problems.

3 female Nile lechwes arrived from Italy to share the savannah with Baringo giraffes, Grevy's zebras, Scimitar Horned oryx, Thomson Gazelles and different kind of birds.
