New species at Gondwanaland:
- Golden mantella (Mantella aurantiaca)
- Golfodulcean poison dart frog (Phyllobates vittatus), they already bred
- Victoria Crowned-pigeon (Goura victoria)
- Two Myanmar thamins were born.
- Bearded Barbets, Violet plantain-eaters, Red-crested turaco, Purple honeycreeper, Williams electric blue gecko and Australian green Tree Frogs hatched.
- A female Musk deer was shipped to Berlin Zoo.
- 24 Colorado River toads arrived from Bern and 3 Dalmatian pelicans from Vienna.
- A female adult Eastern quoll died.
A Swellshark, sired by parthogenesis, hatched at the aquarium. It is the first hatch of this species in europe.
One Eastern quoll female with 3,2 pups, born in July 2012, is now on show at Gondwanaland. The other three females are behind the scenes together with their offspring.
The import was already confirmed by the zoo itself.
Leipzig and India are going to start a cooperation program to improve animals husbandry in indian zoos and to enhance chances of self-supporting ex-situ zoo populations. India will arrange a sloth bear studbook with the help of Leipzig.
