Good news that at least they are moved from the castle. Where will there new home be?
 
Four Indian sloth bears arrived from India to revitalize the european zoo population.
 
Bonobo female ULINDI (born at Frankfurt, 10.10.1993) and her son LOTO (born at Leipzig, 02.09.2009) were shipped to Romagne (La Vallee des Singes) on thursday.
 
Bonobo GEMENA (born at Twycross 2005, KAKOWET II x CHEKA) arrived.

Two Dall's Sheeps, two Reeve's muntjacs and two Western roe deers were born.
 
Leipzig will be recieving four female chimps from Stichting Aap in holland. Three of them originate from a zoo at the island of Réunion east of Madagascar, the fourth comes from a zoo in Germany.

Are the chimps from Reunion unrelated to any in Europe already? If so this is very good news. Do you know if they are a pure subspecies?
 
According to the studbook, the subspecies of the three females and one male is still unknown. The four chimpanzees are:

1,0 DAZA (*~1986, he came to AAP from Réunion May 2009)
0,1 JEUDI (*~1986, she came to AAP from Réunion May 2009)
0,1 BRIGITTA (* ~1966, she came to AAP from Réunion May 2009)
0,1 FREDERIKE (*???, she came to AAP from Tierpark Kalletal in Germany 2011)
 
The origins of the three Réunion chimps is unknown. So i cant tell if they are unrelated or of an pure subspecies. I`ve mailed Stichting Aap and will forward any info they might share.

I doubt if St. Aap may be able to tell you. Unless that is, that Kobenhavn Zoo has performed genetic analysis on the chimpanzees prior to transfer to Leipzig Zoo.

There is some likelihood that the chimps from Reunion were wildcaught ..!?
 
Today zoo director Dr. Jörg Junhold was appointed to become a honorary professor of the university of Leipzig.
