Does anyone know exactly how many sri lankan leopards there are in european zoos? According to the zoo tier liste there are 29 holders in Europe.

Does anyone know exactly how many persian leopards there are in european zoos? According to the zoo tier liste there are 42 holders in Europe.

Does anyone know exactly how many north chinese leopards there are in european zoos? According to the zoo tier liste there are 30 holders in Europe.

Because I want to make a list with pictures for identification purposes.
Okay; so in the European Zoos there are 4 EEPs:
- Sri Lankan
- Persian
- Chinese
- Amur (kept separated by the Chinese, despite the taxonomical discussions always towering)

There are also some hybrid supposed African leopards...and other hybrids animals (especially the ones which are kept as melanistic lineage...).

How does Europe have the space for four leopard programs? That seems like an extraordinary excess.

Indeed, it's great that we can support four leopard programs and it's not excessive as many zoos can cooperate and there is interest in supporting leopards.
On the other hand, it's unfortunate the AZA has decided to focus only on one program, which is a reverse excess, in my opinion.

That used to be an opinion I shared but every time I've seen that come up on zoochat previously, it has been said the AZA does not have enough space to support more than one leopard subspecies. I hope that makes it more understandable why four species being held in Europe seems like many in comparison.
