List all the leucistic or albino animals you have personally seen. For any newbies unfamiliar with the terms, it means white animals that are not normally white (so polar bears do not count, because they are supposed to be white). Please state if it was at a zoo or the wild.

My post, so I will make the first reply.

tiger (with and without stripes) - numerous zoos
lion - a couple zoos
serval - a cat rescue center
turkey vulture - a Texas zoo
vermillion flycatcher - manmade wetlands in Tucson
African crested porcupine - a zoo in England
red lechwe - a zoo in England
American alligator - several zoos
tegu - reptile rescue center in Arizona
Burmese python - almost every zoo I go to
western diamondback - several zoos
eastern diamondback - a couple zoos

African Clawed Frog (Maritime Aquarium)
American Alligator (Rainforest Reptiles*, Maritime Aquarium)
Argentine Horned Frog (Rainforest Reptiles)
Bennett's Wallaby (Busch Gardens Tampa)
Eastern Ratsnake (Beardsley Zoo)
Indian Peafowl (Beardsley Zoo)
Monocled Cobra (Rainforest Reptiles)
Tiger (Southwick's Zoo, Busch Gardens Tampa, Lowry Park Zoo)
Can't recall if I saw a white Dromedary Camel at Bronx or not, I wasn't really paying attention to the camels.
*Rainforest Reptiles was a travelling reptile group that was staying at Beardsley Zoo for a while, I'm not really a fan of the group.

I’ve seen lots of albino and leucistic animals of many species; the more unusual mammals that I’ve seen include:-

• albino mona monkey (many times at London Zoo during the 1960s)
• “Snowflake” the famous white gorilla at Barcelona Zoo
• albino scimitar-horned oryx (Catskill Game Farm in 1984)

Red and Grey Kangaroos
Echidna (not sure which kind)
Hairy nose wombat
Bennett Wallaby
Meerkat
Peafowl
New Zealand Black Swan

All were in captivity.

Echidna (not sure which kind)

Would be Short-beaked (the one in Australia). The only captive long-beaks (from New Guinea) are at Taronga Zoo and Moscow Zoo. Where did you see the albino echidna?

I should probably called the swan the "New Zealand Not-So-Black Swan", it was very unusual. Someone actually put a photo of it up a while ago: http://www.zoochat.com/77/white-black-swan-159432/

You shouldn't call it New Zealand at all! - the species is endemic to Australia (although there are some ferals in NZ). It is a very cool bird though, wish I'd seen it when I visited Gorge.

Score on two out of these three- not the Oryx though. I also remember an Albino Rhesus macaque at Bristol Zoo. Apart from some other ungulates e.g. Blackbuck, perhaps the most unusual one I've seen was a 'white' elephant in Dusit Zoo ,Bangkok- from memory it wasn't really white but did have paler pigmentation than usual.

Lots of white animals seen but some of the more unussual :
White Raccoon - Zie-ZOO - the Netherlands
White Raccoon dog - also Zie-Zoo
White caracara - Best Zoo - the Netherlands

Over the years, visitors to Chester zoo have frequently seen a wild, pure white jackdaw - sometimes known as 'Ashley', but I don't know if he/she has been seen since SMR put this excellent photo in the Gallery (I would have used one of my own photos, but I think it disappeared when the Gallery was tidied up).
