Zoo Liberec Liberec zoo news

Liberec zoo gave up on common cussimanse. The older pair that never bred have been sent to Plzen zoo recently.
(btw could that been that pair of sleeping fat animals at lion house in Plzen that I have identified as dwarf mongoose due to missing signage @vogelcommando ?)

Instead, their enclosure is now inhabited by 3 plains viscachas received from Zoo Zürich. Nice addition.

Guess you could be right Jana.

On Dec. 19 a male Maneless zebra was born at Liberec :).
Actually, it is a female zebra foal.

Liberec zoo has sent 2000 euro to organisation Talarak in Philiphines whose endangered wildlife breeding center got badly damaged by a typhoon and flooding.

The zoo is open during whole Christmas holidays. Tommorow is a "pay-how-much-you-want" day when entrance fee is abolished.

A margay cat cub born on 12th of March. Still hidden in box with its mother but might get visible to visitors in the outside exhibit (near seal lion pool) in a few weeks.

Chapmans zebra herd has already two new colts. The male colt has even blue eyes - specific colour variation that comes in this herd from time to time.

Siberian eagle owl pair has 2 chicks.

Hi Guys. There was a rumor that some chapmans zebra from Liberec might be transferred to Zoo Chorzow (Katowice). Do you know anything about this?

Red panda twins born on 8th June have their first pics published on zoo website. The father of the cubs came from Paradise Park Cornwall.

The zoo also shows their future plans including the first scheme for their extension area (12 hectares, with waste enclosures for winter-hard species), but construction of this part wont happen before 2025.

The current zoo director has seen his contract prolonged by another 6 years. It looks like Liberecký Kraj (local region government that now owns the zoo) is happy with him.

A pair of Fiji banded iguanas is on show in their tropical pavilion, fresh addition to their collection.

Chinese leopard cubs born in May has been sexed and they are male and female.

More like he had barely any competition for the place...
Whole 2 people sent their CV.

I dont know if people are afraid to work in severely underfunded zoo. Or if they resigned because they felt they have no chance against the current director? But information that the job is up for grabs has been on national media. Everybody in local CZ/SK zoo industry did know and could try.

The tropical house is now closed because its roof is being repaired. It migth reopen at the end of December.

New kea parrot exhibit is under construction and will open next spring.

Next in line of renovations is giraffe house. Its visitors area will get new huge tank with Tanganjika cichlids, reptile tanks for around 20 new species and an exhibit for mole rats.

Attendance is not so good, they are 15.000 behind their 2019 numbers.
