What about the tiger that sufficated it's young cub due to her lack of mothering skills ?
If he had removed that cub it woulddn't had died, and the next the next one that she did give birth to did stay with her , so please get your fact's correct . Not animals are born mothers.

That's quite true, and the fact that the cub died is a learning lesson for the mother and may be why the next cub survived. This is very often the case with many animals and it's important that they are able to learn these lessons. If the cub had been removed maybe this might not have happened and she may not have been able to gain her mothering skills. Another way of looking at it?

Yes, you have the occasional ones that don't know how to care for their young, but blackpanther's point is that Craig takes most if not all cubs from their mothers regardless of how well they're doing. This is against so many rules of nature, and is trying to dominate something that we should not. How do you explain that as good welfare?
You say you shouldn't ignore facts, but it's interesting you've skipped that as well as conviniently not debating back at my earlier post.

Craig Busch is currently the subject of allegations that, if proven, should disqualify him from ever again working with animals. The public standing of zoos all over the world - and especially those that are privately owned - are diminished when revelations of animal cruelty in pursuit of public entertainment are made.

What allegations have been made that would disqualify him from ever working with animals again? The dispute going on just now as far as I'm aware has nothing to do with animal cruelty.

You appear to be claiming Craig Busch is at present being investigated for the mistreatment of his animals. Could you please elaborate.

Can I just add that you should of mentioned that he takes the cubs away before an age they would naturally leave their mothers in the wild, to get the animals to believe that he is their "dad".

Let alone constant handling the cubs at an early stage to get used to their new "dad" which is seen to be stressful to the mothers.

Isn't it a possibility that she had no mothering skills due to being hand reared herself? That's very often the case with many animals.

Ash , I do not work with any animals, but surely even hand reared animals have a natural instinct that enables them to look after their young.

The point is that he shouldn't be keeping and breeding animals which have no use to conservation and then claim to be saving entire species from extinction.

for argument's sake let's remove the comparison and just say that just because he has hundreds of fans doesn't mean he's right.

Not always, hand reared elephants have been known to kill their young, same with many other species.

Sorry , what earlier post are you reffering too ?

Just because Craig Busch has thousands of fans I agree does not make him right , but the arguments that I have have read that are so much against hime have never convinced me that he is wrong
I have looked at this from every angle and I really do not know why there seems to be so much hatred towards one person
Do the animals look or act scared when they are near him ? No ! Quite the opposite . It would be very hard to teach an animal not to show fear.

Well please give evidence of these facts .Who has hard evidence that Craig Busch takes most if not all cubs away from their mothers?
I would be very interested to know .

If you do not work with animals why do you argue so strongly against the opinions of people who do and have knowledge of animal husbandry, legislation and behaviour of both wild and captive animals.

Some hand reared animals can and do rear their own young, that is not the issue. The issue is why were the animals hand reared in the first instance and how were they hand reared?

Hand rearing should only be done as a last resort for an endangered species and with the minimal amount of human contact necessary, depending on species, and with the long term goal of returning the animal to its natural group/s so it can interact with its own species in as natural way as possible.

The example you use of a tiger which reared its own cub after suffocating a previous one surely only endorses leaving the cub with the mother?

That's right there on the TV show!
He claims it'll "give them a better life". You don't get much more proof than that.

Craig Busch vist to UK

There are a lot of young children in the UK who are enthralled by the Lionman videos. This may be the only chance they have to meet the animal wrangler/trainer/keeper who has sparked their interest in big cats. A lot of 'professionals' don't like his hands on approach and that's their perogative . It's also up to the people in the UK to decide whether they want to see him when he vists the UK. I sure the zoos in question could do with the extra money during these difficult time.

Now that the childrens interest has been sparked it's up to other keepers/ conservationist to educate them further about the proper care and maintenace of these beautiful animals.

The bully boy tactics I've seen people advocated on Zoochat are not the way to go.

As none of us here that I am aware of, were working at Zion Wildlife Park when Craig Busch was the park operator we do not know the full facts of why some of his animals were hand reared, once again all we have is speculation and with no concrete evidence
Never once did Zion Wildlife Gardens mention cruelty to animals when Craig Busch was dismissed from the park. Looking at the bigger picture over the last few months it looks to me like a witch hunt!

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

I really will have to go now , but yes I do believe that the cats had a better life under the care of Craig Busch
They are used to human contact and with him interacting with them, he was a huge part of their life for many years , like it or not
All I can say is that I think their emotional welfare is as important as their physical welfare .
So we may have have to agree to disagree on this one .!

I have not personally said anything about the individual but have only commented on your posts where you make claims about Craig Busch. I disagree with any park or individual that takes decisions to hand rear animals for no other reason than to make these animals handleable for reasons that do not benefit the animals. These are points I have been making and you only reply with something completely unrelated to the points I have made.

It's true that children can be influenced and inspired by what they see on television and it's fantastic if they can be inspired to care about conservation that's why those doing the inspiring have a duty to present information that is correct and as for other keepers and conservationists to educate them further then they may have to correct the misleading information first.
