Auckland Zoo Lion Pride developments 2010

Eight-year old male lion Lazarus has been at the Zoo for seven years and
will call Cairns Wildlife Park home by Christmas. His move means he’ll
be able to breed with new ‘Aussie gals’ waiting for him in tropical North
Queensland. It also opens the door for our remaining male lion Ngala to
assert his dominance over the pride – and hopefully start breeding with
lionesses Kura and Amira.

Hopefully we'll see some cubs from Kura (aged 12) and Amira (aged 9) in the next few months or so. It'll be good for Ngala to have the oppotunity to breed siince Lazerus was the father of both litters born in 2004.

Lazerus has six children and six grandchildren (five at Orana, one at Monarto).

Sad that Lazarus is moving on but will be nice to hear the pitter patter of tiny paws once again :D

All the best to Lazarus!

Sheeka is still at the zoo as far as i know... however her genes are VERY well set in the Austrilasian zoo world, i guess the zoo is not using her for breeding

What happened to Sheeka?
And Where did you get the information on Lazarus moving?

Sheeka is still settled at Auckland, happy as ever and staying out of the way.

The news Lazarus is moving was in the latest edition of 'Zoo Alive' the zoo's magazine along with the final public confirmation that Jalur and Cinta are moving next month. Im guessing that is where Axl got the info from.

That is correct, apologies for not adding the source. Sheeka was sterilized in 2004 due to her well represented bloodline (as mentioned). She produced three daughters in August 2001 who now live at Wellington Zoo. Their names are Djane, Djembe and Zhara. Wellington Zoo are hoping to breed with these lioness when their males Zulu and Malik return from Christchurch.
