Lion pride in UK Zoos

Some amendments
Howletts 2:5
Blair Drummond 1:5 @ last count
Wolds 3:1
Whipsnade 1:2:3cub should have been sexed by now but that information has not been released to my knowledge
Port Lympne 4:6 as mentioned by @Tankyboi
Woburn 5:3 ( at most )

As a subpoint Zazzi was alive as of August 2024 as reported by local vets that treated her eye

Great to know about Zazzi to think she's going to turn at least 24yrs this year is phenomenal and a true testament to the care she receives from her keepers at Flamingo Land. Sounds like she's out lived some of her offspring as well

Apart from Kumali do we know when they
all died?
Zazzi,Mishka,Niyaka,Monday,Tuesday & Friday were alive Spring 2020 but obviously Zazzi was 20 then and Mon, Tues & Fri we're born in 2009 so they're all getting on in years. Anyhow if anyone knows when these individuals died, any info would be great.
This one took some deep diving

Logic and recent images tell me the last two are Friday and either Niyaka /Mishka however Zazzi has proved me wrong before.

Wow thanks for this, it's so hard trying to get info about FL lions so this is really informative, thank you!

I know Monday, Tuesday & Friday were alive in 2020 and they were 11 years old then. So even as the youngest in the pride they are now 16 this year. It'll be end if an era when the last of the Longleat lions pass away but to have had 5 healthy lion cubs in 2009 that all survived for a couple of years at least is an iconic and great success story

Just some updates from this year:

  • Yorkshire Wildlife Park sadly had their last 0:2 of the original rescues, Julia & Crystal put down at the age of 18yrs
  • Ayasa(mother of the other 3) at YWP that was rehomed from Ukraine last year gave birth to 0:0:3 cubs in March
  • At West Midlands SP Amber gave birth in April to 2:1. They've been named Nero, Nox & Nancy
  • Big Cat Sanctuary completed their rehoming of the 5 Ukrainian lions.
  • Folly Farm announced the death of their pride male Hugo who died at the age of 17yrs
  • Noahs Ark announced the death of one of their young males Kojo. This leaves them with 1:1(Kojo's mother & brother)
  • Lincolnshire Wildlife Park announced the death of one of their male White lions. Uganda died aged 16yrs
  • Wildheart(Isle of Wight) announced the death of White Lion Casper who died aged 18yrs
  • Big Cat Sanctuary rehomed 0:2 white lionesses from Hertfordshire zoo
  • Hertfordshire zoo rehomed 1:1 Asiatic lions from Big Cat Sanctuary

How many lions are there now at wmsp and what are there names ?

At Longleat there are 7 lionesses in with Simba & Klaus. Unsure if there are any castrated males still in the pride(Sylvester was one of them)

One of the oldest lions in the UK has died here at Longleat in Wiltshire.

We're saddened to announce that Malaika, an African lion who was born at the estate, was just weeks away from her 20th birthday when she passed away peacefully in her sleep.

She had been experiencing age-related difficulties as documented in the current series of Animal Park being screened daily on BBC One this week.

Darren Beasley, Head of Animal Operations, said: “Malaika was the Queen of Harry’s pride, and we know she was much-loved by guests and keepers alike. She was found in the morning by our keepers having died peacefully in her sleep, which was a lovely way for her to go.

“While it is always sad when we lose an animal, the length of her life is testament to the care she has received over her years at Longleat as the average lifespan is around 14 years.”

Lions were the first animal to feature in our drive through safari when it became the first to open outside Africa in 1966 and there are now two prides, one with Harry and the other led by Klaus and Simba.

Africa Alive have announced that Jabu(1:0 castrated) has been PTS at the age of 16yrs.
He was suffering from advanced kidney disease.
This leaves 0:1 his sister Kaya

Anyone know what happened to African lion Makimba from Africa Alive? Was Makimba M or F?
