According to the LisbonZoo Website, on the 20th of October a male and a female Persian (Causassian) Leopard has been transfered to the Caucassian Natural Reserve (in Russian) to be part of a breeding program. They will be inclued in a semi-captive reproduction program and their future cubs should be released in the wild. Selected leos were Zadig (male, 9 years old) and Andrea (female, 7 years old).

Also LisbonZoo will give formation to keepers from the Reserve.

LisbonZoo has been very sucefull in breeding persian leopards, and i remeber seeing in 2010 more than 8 adults specimens on the Zoo.

Does anyone know what happened to this animals that used to be on show at the zoo? Most are off-show, but soem are not...

A male white rhino has been born at Lisbon Zoo on the 7th of December.

Its the first baby born of this spp at the Zoo and all is OK with the baby (male) and with the mother.

LZ currently has 2.2 adult white rhinos. I dont know who are the parents, only that the father is 24years old and the mother 9 years old.

The other female is also pregnant and due in two months.

That baby boy born in 2010, Gyasi, was moved to Chessington earlier this year. What happened to the other baby? I can't find anything about it. Was it stillborn? And, how many wihite rhnos are currently at Lisbon? According to the studbook there should be 2.2, is that still correct? Are the 2nd male and both females really nameless?

I believe the other baby died, or it was not pregnant, or it was already moved.

The Zoo currently has 2.2 Southern White Rhinos.

I assume the second female may have miscarried as it was said at the time by another Lisboa aficionado that the second female was pregnant. No birth announcement has ensued since that time in 2010. First born male Gyasi was moved quite recently (and his birth was well ... highly publicised ... as the first successful one at Lisboa).

Ey Filipinos! ;) can you please take a lot of pics. of the newborn? Many thanks.

There are rumors that female Indian rhino "Numa" (from Dvur Kralove) has passed away. Is that true? When did she die, what happened?

A female white rhino was born on 4 May 2014. Father is "Globani", I can't find anything on who is the mother.

Globani would be the male imported in 2007 from South Africa.

The other male at Lisboa is Umkombi (b. 1986).

Well, I'm not sure. I was told in the Lisboa Zoo Facebook fan page that the old bull is called Globani (anyway, a bull was (re)named "Globani" in 2012). I tried to contact the zoo via email twice, but still no success, no answer.

I read one or two newspaper features on this and it seems BANIF, a large Portugese banking facility some 2 years ago started sponsorship of the white rhino. They choose the old bull - not the one imported in 2007, but the one from 1986 Umkombi -. So, it is Umkombi / et cetera which has now been renamed Globani.

This still leaves all the other rhinos (1.2 imported in 2007 from South Africa) pretty nameless. I am sure they have been named, only those names are not given on the website.
