Being not that popular tourist city, the species situation of the popular Shenyang Forest Zoological Garden is not very clear, so I will update the species situation of Shenyang Forest Zoological Garden in this post.


As the first zoo in China to move from the city to the suburbs, the Shenyang Forest Zoological Garden (hereinafter referred to as the Shenyang Zoo) has gone through a number of drastic changes, and today this zoo has increased the number of species from 69 to 148 today, and continues to expand its influence in the surrounding area.


I will introduce the species of Shenyang Zoo in four parts: amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

I wasn't able to get a good shot of the pheasants because the wire fencing of their exhibit was woven very densely.

Tropical birds, including parrots, toucans, hornbills and other birds that live in the tropics(15 species):
  1. Hornbills:Great Hornbill,Wreathed Hornbill.
  2. Toucans and parrots:Toco Toucan,Channel-billed Toucan,White-throated Toucan,Green Aracari,Black-necked Aracari,Sulphur-crested Cockatoo,Cockatiel,Blue-and-yellow Macaw,Red-and-green Macaw,Green-cheeked Parakeet,Sun Parakeet.
  3. Songbirds:Violet Turaco,Crested Myna,Common Hill Myna.
 
Raptors and pigeons (3):
  1. Cinereous Vulture,Eurasian Eagle-Owl.
  2. Pigeons,Includes a number of ornamental species, a section for which I did not keep statistics.
In fact, the Shenyang Zoo has exhibited a number of other raptors, but since most of these birds came to the zoo by way of wild rescues, they are released into the wild after they have been treated.
By my count, these raptors include: Common Kestrel, Long-eared Owl, Golden Eagle, and Little Owl.
 
Mammals (73 species in all), starting with elephants and primates.


Shenyang Zoo has only one elephant specie, the Asian elephant, and three Asian elephants (1 ♂ and 2 ♀) live here: the 40-year-old Asian elephant couple Ming and Hua (I can only briefly translate their names) and their 19-year-old daughter Yuanyuan.

Inside this post we'll mainly do a brief introduction for all the species at the Shenyang Zoo, but later on I might start a new post for the Shenyang Zoo's Asian elephant family.

I need to admit that I missed one when counting mammals, so now the Shenyang Zoo has a total of 149 species and 74 mammals（2024）.
 
After a ludicrous mistake, the mammalian section of primates (21 species) is next:

I think the species of Wapiti is Izubra(C. c. xanthopygus)，and the species of Sika deer is Manchurian Sika Deer(C. n. mantchuricus),they are both species that are readily available in northeastern China (and representative of the region), and are even raised on a large scale as livestock.
