Why even bother calling it the “African Loop” if you’re going to exhibit Maned Wolves, Giant Anteaters, Chacoan Peccaries, White-Handed Gibbons, & Indian Crested Porcupines .

They don't group those animals in the "African" area, actually. I put "African Loop/Elevated Walkway" to designate that the two are separate areas along one path, with the Cheetah Conservation Outpost as the divider. All of the species on the African side are African except for the porcupine and some of the ectotherms in the Outpost.

I will rephrase/rearrange the list to make that clearer.

One of the mysteries of this zoo is why they shut down their giraffe exhibit. Have they converted it into black rhino space?

One of the mysteries of this zoo is why they shut down their giraffe exhibit.

They phased the species out in 2014 after an aggressive male (which was in the process of being transferred to another zoo) broke through a gate at night to neck-spar - and unfortunately kill - another male giraffe. The old barn has since been torn down to make more room for the rhinos. Apparently they've had a lot of demand from the public to bring them back, so they've been trying to lobby for funds to build a new exhibit.

Have they converted it into black rhino space?

I'm not exactly sure, as the yard wasn't signed and there were no rhinos in it when I visited. It's possible, though; I saw a photo in the gallery that suggested the two used to rotate.

The giraffe exhibit that I saw in 2012 (signed as Reticulated & Baringo) was a bit odd because of the large water moat:

Thank you for posting this species list and also the long series of excellent photos in the gallery! Your photos make the Little Rock Zoo appear to be a great one to visit - I liked the photos of the Yellow-backed Duiker/Crowned Crane and the Giant Anteater exhibits. I last visited the Little Rock Zoo in 1991, so it's changed quite a bit!

Other than that ...., the zoo is developing rather nicely with some interesting new and important births and new species arriving.
