Living Coasts (Closed) Living Coasts closed permanently

According to zootierliste, the common murres and tufted puffins have gone to Valencia L' Oceanografic. does anyone know how many animals this were and how the breeding went in Living Coasts?
I have a copy of the Inventory for the year 2019 with a missing column. However, I think there were 1.6 tufted puffins and 18.12 common guillemots. There was one guillemot hatching and one death, and the puffins had one death.

Found this on zootierliste:
-African penguins gone to Pairi Daiza, Belgium
-Macaroni penguins gone to Folly Farm Zoo, UK
-Bank cormorants gone to Farnham Birdworld & Underwater world, UK
-Common murres gone to Valencia L'Oceanografic, Spain
-Tufted puffins gone to Valencia L'Oceanografic, Spain

Is it known where other animals have gone to?

@ocellated_eelpout I am sorry to point this out but, this news is almost a year old,and is common knowledge among the Zoo community.

It's still sad news if you read it for the first time.

A friendly note : New members may be new to finding a real interest in zoos and animals, so many, especially the younger ones are learning daily. I'm old and still learning :D:):D

'Beaks Going Everywhere' – How To Rehome A Zoo In A Pandemic

Article about the rehoming of the animals from living coasts including how a pair of Marconi penguins rehomed at Folly farm are incubating an egg.

Since speaking to HuffPost UK earlier this month, Folly Farm has announced the exciting news that they have welcomed their first Macaroni egg since the new arrivals entered the zoo.

The soon-to-be parents are Mac and Flash who are “inseparable, spend their day building their nest or lying in the nest with each other”.

Still breaks my heart! I have to alter my run & cycle routes around the SW Coast Path route/roads as it’s still too sad to see it. It’s looking like something from Chenobyl. At least the Macaronis are doing well...

As sad as it is , could you possibly say what its happening at the site now please?
I remember the time I visited, I looked down on it from above, saw the coast, saw the building and thought, wow, this could be cool and different! - and it was too. 'Small yet brilliant' are my three words!

There’s been nothing said publicly by Torbay Council for a long time. I’ll post if I hear anything.

@TriUK I share your sadness about Living Coast’s closing. I’ll always remember when I my parents bought me a Penguin feeding experience for Birthday once. I smelled of Fish but my parents and I could not smell it,however my younger sister who was about 4 or 5 at the time could and was complaining about the smell all the way home LOL!! I really hope that Merlin or a similar company purchase Living Coast’s and reopen it as a similar attraction. The place is only 18 years old so the facilities could last decades,so there no excuse why it could not reopen. @TriUK are there any residents left at Living Coast’s or have they all moved out?

The last time I could bring myself to look in from the road was mid-February and there were no animals visible.

The local Herald Express reports that a property agent is inviting serious potential occupiers of the site to get in touch with plans for uses or development by 16 July. Proposals will only be considered when presented in conjunction with evidence of substantial and sufficient due diligence as to viability and also with proof of access to sustainable funding with which to deliver such uses. They do not want suggestions or wishes from the general public.

Worth noting perhaps that Bristol Zoo's 'Seals & Coasts' exhibit which I think LC was at least partially based on, though as a more complex version, will also presumably disappear for good when the zoo closes, as I rather doubt it will be replicated again at the new/Wildplace site due to the expense(?). So that could see the end of this style of exhibit in the UK, for the present anyway.

Quoting from today's local Herald Express:
A not-for-profit group which has spent 12 months working on plans for the Living Coasts site fears 'big money plans' may triumph over the social enterprise company's vision of a free, open oasis. In a hard-hitting statement, the founder of Heart of Torbay Community Interest Company says that after a year of working with the lease holders on their proposal, a decision was made to advertise for other expressions of interest.
She claimed: 'The council, it seems, are in favour of the big money plans ... but thankfully the lease holder seems to share our values, mission, and aims through the natural environment, education, inclusivity and community so we may still have a chance.'
A Torbay council spokesman said; 'Wild Planet Trust continues to hold a lease for the site and remains responsible for the terms under the lease. Council and TDA officers have met the WPT to understand their intentions and to explain their commitments and obligations under the lease. The expressions of interest process is being driven by the trust but is understood and supported by the council as landlord. The Heart of Torbay group have an opportunity to submit an expression of interest.'
The Heart of Torbay proposals will include an 'oasis of calm' on the top half of the site, which would be free to visit. The not-for-profit company would make money to fund the scheme from the restaurant, beach bar and other local businesses and community groups using the lower levels.
