I've been completely inactive on ZooChat for over a year now but I've been silently observing threads on the Forums. I felt like creating a thread to discuss the incredible region I have just moved to: East Africa.

I left Amman, Jordan this year and have been in Nairobi for about 2 months now. I've only been on one safari so far (Nairobi National Park) but am leaving in 1 week for a 2-nighter in the Masai Mara, right as the migration wraps up (October). Feel free to ask any questions here or discuss any topics. Or do check the Gallery for new pics frequently. :):):)
 
Just had a look in the Kenya-gallery and you made some real good photos zooboyabroad ! Hope you keep sharing your pictures with us and also news from Kenyan wildlife is of course always welcome !
BTW are there any zoos or zoo-related places ( reptile-parks, bird-parks aquariums etc. ) near the place you live ?
 
Thanks for having a look vogelcommando! I'll be updating as frequently as I can and posting photos in the Gallery too. In less than a week I'll be in the Masai Mara and then off to Lake Naivasha, so new photos and posts should be coming by then.

As a matter of fact, there does happen to be a "zoo" inside the main entrance of Nairobi National Park, called the Nairobi Safari Walk, which exhibits orphaned animals in large naturalistic habitats. Highlights to see there include a pygmy hippo, albino zebra, mountain bongo, and a functioning leopard trap.
There also happens to be a mediocre reptile park in the complex that houses the Nairobi National Museum, with a decent collection of snakes, turtles, tortoises, lizards and crocodilians.

Below is a list of roughly all the mammal and bird species I saw on my first visit to Nairobi National Park:
