Hey there,

I guess I'm not technically new having made a few posts here and there, and having lurked for quite some time, but I figured I should introduce myself.

I'm Lauren, a final year Zoology student who spends her Saturday's working unpaid in London Zoo's invertebrate house (BUGS!) and upon graduation I want to be a professional zoo keeper or aquarist.

I'm finding it difficult finding posts to apply for when I graduate and I'm currently terrified that I'm going to end up stuck as a waitress. I guess I'm looking for suggestions of how to get my foot in the door at any of the UK's zoos or aquariums and to natter with people about breeding programs and sciencey things.

An official welcome Lauren/procyonlotor from foz.

Can't help you with the whole career thing though I am sure there are people on here that can!

Thank you. I love spending my time on this forum- its nice to read up on the things that are happening in the places that I hold dear to me but no longer get to visit. I spent my younger years in many many zoos with my grandmother.

Re: CZ Jimmy.
I never realised that BIAZA posted vacancies- I've never really looked at their webpage, only glimpsed at reports on the mess table. I've applied for the position and I've got my fingers and toes crossed. Our aquarist has been training me up heavily on aquatics in the past couple of weeks and I finally understand why. I don't want to do anything else. What are you studying may I ask?

Re: Foz.
I don't expect to be helped out here, but its nice to be able to talk to people that are just as passionate about the zoological world as I am.
