What exactly is new about their 'hot tub'? The houseplants? What with the new wallaby mountain looming and the most dysfunctional Gorilla group in the Uk, London really is at the cutting edge of the zoo world.

Is there any sign that London will be getting any female African Hunting Dogs any time soon?

They've had the 4 males for a while now...

That's significant that the neither the bears nor the current australia house are marked on the London map this year.

Well with the bears moving very shortly, it doesn't make sense to print them for the rest of the year.

As for the Australia House, I hope something more exciting than goats or reindeer go there...

When are the bears moving, has this been announced yet? I haven't heard of an enclosure being planned for them at Whipsnade. Where, in your opinion, are they likely to go once they move there?

Well, I'd imagine it would be once Cheetah Rock opens (March 21st). The sloth bears could have the old cheetah area then...

When I contacted the zoo about the bears, they weren't sure of where they would be located at whipsnade and that was in December. I'll be visiting both ZSL parks in the summer, so I should figure it out one way or the other.

That would make total sense for them to modify the existing cheetah area once Cheetah Rock opens, given it's location I guess it's practical. I'm quietly excited for them to be moving outta the big smoke, to a nice wooded enclosure perhaps, although bear mountain was such a fantastic symbol for the regeneration of this zoo. I wonder what state the building is in structurally. I can almost see it closing once Biota opens. You always hear stuff about it slipping into the regent's canal by several inches a year and suchlike, it's such an unusual building I can't imagine it would be easy to do anything with it.

That's my guess of where the Sloth Bears will go too. Maybe they'll be able to curl up and go to sleep in peace at the back,- or maybe the different surroundings will more satisfactory for them in some way.

Remember Whipsnade have had Sloth Bears before- circa 1930's- a postcard shows them against a background of a high barred fence with a curved overhang- possibly the same fence as is along the back of the Brown Bear paddock.

I had heard they were building a paddock adjoining the Asian house for the sloth bear

Where is the Asian House? I can't quite remember that...

No, I can't remember which building this is either. I still think the old Cheetah enclosure would be fine for the bears though, they could re-landscape it first if they wanted too. Building a new paddock for bears which have proved to be a poor exhibit sounds rather a waste of money.

I have looked at some old maps of the park, and i think it could be where the onagers and camels are housed behind the Przewalski's wild horse paddock.

Any signs of any Abi the lioness being pregnant at London, i would have thought she would've concieved by now, or is Lucifer just a 'dud'?, i mean he's been there long enough!

Do you know the last time when the ZSL Asian lions produced cubs?

The last lion cubs born at London Zoo where in 1999, from Ruchi and Kamal. Abi was one of that litter.

I think Kamal only stayed at London for one mating before being shipped out, bit of a waste really!

The New Cat Terraces haven't really had the success that was hoped. I believe London thought that with bringing the cats into realistic enclosures with fresh air, would lead to regular births. Lions and Tigers are the only cat species left on the terraces, if i recall correctly and they have had very few cubs between them...

i haven't double-checked my facts, so correct me if i'm wrong
