Yes; it is the same animal.
This gorilla wasn't a permanent resident at London Zoo but his owner sometimes took him to the zoo where he would spend afternoons in one of the outdoor cages of the old Lion House.
Incidentally, the gorilla "John Daniel" was named after the famous animal dealer John Daniel Hamlyn (Hamlyn's owl-faced monkey was named Cercopithecus hamlyni in his honour too.)
