Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park 2021

This is really interesting. " Now that autumn's here, the red deer rut is in full swing!
At this important time of year, this beautiful big boy (aptly named Hazard) will be sparring using his impressive antlers for the girls' attention.
Deer shed their antlers every year and then grow a completely new set which is quite amazing given the size of those on Hazard".

Longleat normally close the Deer Park reserve during the autumn rut. Does advertising it like this mean they haven't done so this October? I don't really understand why they do so as although stags can be dangerous at this time, people are in their cars at Longleat- at other deer parks like Richmond you can approach on foot although they do warn you to keep distance.

Oh yes the Deer Park always closed during the rutting season

There's sad news as I just been to Facebook just now. Alf the last member of the Timber Wolves passed away earlier this week at the age of 13. Wolf Wood now passes to the European Grey Wolves but the Canadian Timber Wolf pack will never be forgotten

Do they state what he died of, natural causes? The one that was put down 2 weeks ago they stated it was kidney stones according to an earlier post.

Sad to hear about Alf.

Is there any news about what's happening with the animals in the Under the Moon exhibit now it's closed?

Guessing they mean the bit where the bats used to be.

When I went there were only blind cave fish and elephant shrews plus the bats so it's not like it would have taken much effort to rehome them.

Seems a bit of a pointless question IMO.

@GaryA was there any need for the last sentence?

Some of us either haven't visited for a long time or ever so if asked what an exhibit held its hardly a "pointless question" now is it? Plus I asked a genuine question NOT for your opinion

What's "Under the Moon" exhibit?
I believe it is in the Bat Area, yes, but now there is a great big moon exhibition in the middle and some more nocturnal animals like slow loris. I don’t know much more apart from it is only temporary. Hope this helps:)

Indeed, @Embu ! Besides which, that isn't what the Under the Moon exhibit is/was..! It was completely separate to the former bat area - it was a (rather odd-sounding) special installation in the Longhouse building that included Slender Loris and a massive replica of the moon amongst the exhibits: Longleat Safari Park 2021 [Longleat Safari & Adventure Park]

From a post back on June 10th in this thread (see below), it was mentioned that Longleat would try and find a more permanent home for the slender lorises somewhere in the park after the exhibition ended:

From what I saw, there were a pair of Slender Loris (I spoke to one of the keepers there and he mentioned they were going to try and find a more permanent spot for them in the park after the exhibitor closes - whether that means putting them into Jungle Kingdom, Animal Adventure or some new are I don't know)

Having spoke to the keepers when the exhibition was on, the loris were only ever on a loan and they said they will have to be returned.

That's a shame. Thanks for the reply. It seems a shame the park no longer has a nocturnal exhibit. Hopefully in the future they will consider developing a new area/house.
