Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park 2024

Exciting news

We're thrilled to announce the arrival of a critically endangered African white-backed vulture chick!
This is the first successful hand-reared vulture hatchling for us here at Longleat and at seven weeks old, it's already big enough to fill the arms of its keepers

The cat’s out of the bag!

We are incredibly excited to introduce you to the four newest arrivals here at Longleat, our Amur tiger cubs. Yana and Red have become parents again after their last litter in 2019. These little cuties are only a week old, but mum, Yana, has been doing a fantastic job. We’ll be keeping you updated as these little cubs grow, but let keepers Caleb and Kayleigh introduce you to our new future additions to Tiger Territory.

Oh that's fantastic! Also four tiger cubs? That's a really good sized litter. Then again, Yana did give birth to three cubs the first time, even if she bite too hard on the first cub. But still a massive congrats to the park for pulling it off again!

Out of interest, did Red ever return to the drive-thru, or is he permanently off show due to his behaviour?

I don't think so, when I did the Silver VIP Tour there last summer they said he was just too dangerous/bad tempered to have out in the drive thru.

I know in Animal Park they were trying to train Red to behave around cars, apparently it was mainly small and white cars he was going for the most but he was likely to go for any. So it sounds like he didn't quiet pay attention in training.

Thought Yana accidently killed it by rolling on it not biting it?

When they aired the episode of her giving birth to the first cub (the one before Yuki and Rusty were born), it was a bite if I remember right.

As for it being an accident, it's hard to say if it really was an accident or she did it intentionally.
You could argue it was an accident due to it being a first time mom back then, so no idea how to react or not being gentle enough.
But it could have been she noticed something wrong with the cub so intentionally killed it, or she just didn't know how to react. It's always hard to say when something like that happens if it was an accident or intentional.

It’s going to Longleat tomorrow any tips for going around the park?

If you want to do the Jungle Cruise on Half Mile Lake, do that first thing in the morning, otherwise by the afternoon you'll have large queues that can take up to an hour or more to get on. Made that mistake when I went last year.

Also do the safari drive through in the afternoon, as everyone goes and does that as soon as they arrive so you get a lot of traffic in the morning. By the afternoon most will be walking about, so then you're less likely to get stuck in traffic.

Also if you don't want Macaques tearing bits off your car, then you can skip that area. Or if you want to do it without the risk to your car, they do offer a jeep drive through into the area around the African stop off for £5 if I remember right.

That's all I can recall from when I went, but if anyone else has any recommendations feel free to add to it or correct me if I've made a mistake

Longleat has been incredibly busy this week, I know 2 people who visited, and arrived at the main entrance around 10-10.15am and didn't even get to the car parks until gone 11am, and that was without going to the safari entrance.
It's half term, you have Steve Backshall doing his show and I doubt there will be any quiet times for anything this week. But it may be better to head for the safari entrance and not the main gate if arriving early tomorrow

Not much I can add to advice already given, I'd advise getting there before opening to try and beat the first real queue rush. It'll still take a long time to get in, but if you do the zoo before the safari park you'll avoid most of the traffic and some of the less active animals, notably the binturongs, aardvarks and porcupine, tend to be more active. My last visit I did Jungle Kingdom followed by the boat, which skips most of the boat queue and gives you the aforementioned animals. Oh and talking of Jungle Kingdom - from what I've heard both anteaters are together again, so you've got a good chance of seeing them about as close as you can in this country.

As @Alwaysevergreen has said it's apparently been packed this week, so you'll probably only get round the safari once so it's best doing that in the afternoon. The animals have always been active throughout the day per my experience with the safari, but you've got a better chance of seeing Anne in the afternoon.

RE the macaques - if you've got a relatively modern car you've probably got nothing to worry about because they particularly go for the aerials. I'd recommend doing it, be it with your car or one of the paid vehicles at the African Village.

If you have time and have missed any animals, definitely go back and try again. I've pretty much seen everything on my past few visits because at some point in the day they're out and about.

If the carnivores aren't being showy in the drive thru, I'd just crawl through at a snail's pace. Unless they're all sleeping, it's worth having some patience for them to do something. That especially applies to the hyenas - I've never missed them, but they can take a while to spot sometimes.

Enjoy your visit!

I can second this - have only visited Longleat twice, but on one visit tried the drive-through first, and on the other tried the walk-around first, and found it to be much more enjoyable when I did it in the order that you alluded to.

The thing is not just with Longleat but other Safari Parks (unless they're one that forces you into the safari as soon as you enter like Woburn Safari Park) is that when people arrive they all want to go for the safari first because that's when animals are just let out or when you're likely to see carnivores moving/feeding. But then you have the walk around areas still being fairly quiet until the afternoon.

So the trick to avoid getting stuck with the crowds and waiting for ages is do it the other way around. Walk around first, then safari.

Yes, indeed, although it is worth noting that it is possible to do the drive-through at Woburn first, by sticking to the road in the middle and skipping the three individual circuits (savannah, carnivores and monkeys / antelope) to go straight to the Foot Safari, spending the morning there, and then using the repeat circuit (the road by the bull elephant paddock) to redo the safari. I haven't tried this for myself, but I strongly suspect that, given the fact that, as you say, the entrance to Woburn leads you straight into the safari, it is even more effective there than it is at Longleat in terms of avoiding crowds.

Yeah, just looked back at the map and even though the map points at you to do a zig zag path to talk the long route through Woburn, it does have a straight route that you can take the bypass them all and reach the foot safari area.

But yeah, sorry to go off topic there XD

Will do great thanks:)

I think we’ll just let the macaques do what they want but expecting the worst :p
