Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2019

I visited Longleat yesterday and
Arrived just as they opened. I was advised to do the Safari early as it was a sell-out and 6,500 cars were expected. The Giraffe weren’t in the paddock with the zebra although the ostriches were causing traffic queues as they were stood in the road and refused to move.

I avoided the monkeys as I didn’t want my car relieved of vital components and the deer paddock was closed. I couldn’t find the Bongo until we were waiting at the gate to enter the Tiger enclosure. They were exploring the area right by the ranger but and the fence.

The Tigers were out and about and the young ones were busy exploring. The traffic was at its worst here mainly because everyone in the overtaking lane was stopped to get some good views. I couldn’t help but wonder whether the stray Pheasant would get discovered by a Tiger soon and I can’t imagine it lasted very long in there!

All the Cats had just been fed and the Lions were very active, brushing past the car on numerous occasions. The Cheetahs likewise. I only saw one Hyena pacing wildly and the Wolves were very active, crossing the road back and forth with bones in their mouths.

Mir was the first time I had seen the Koalas at Longleat and I was very impressed with their habitat. Much better than Edinburgh where they are behind glass.

didn’t manage to see the Giant Otter but was lucky enough to see one of the Gorilla out of his house. The Colobus monkeys were very active and the hippo were just about visible in their wallow. Managed to see a Kingfisher say in a fence at the waters edge and was surprised at the number of Kites circling overhead.

I must have missed the fact that there are now 2 separate Red Panda enclosures, with one being at the boat loading dock.

the Festival of Light is a big draw and I always have to remind myself that the entrance fee, whilst steep, is worth it for the number of species they have and the size of the area they have to maintain. The cost certainly doesn’t affect the numbers coming through the turnstiles.

Loads more seen but these were the highlights. Shame they lost the penguins but it’s not like you can’t see them everywhere else... I like Longleat’s diversity and it’s good to see they are constantly adding to their collection.

I’m sure I’ll be back again in the summer.
