Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2022

They also had blackbuck with them until quite recently

Last time I was there (about a month ago) there was 3 female blackbuck in there, they used to have a much larger heard.

In 2011 until 2016/17 there was also blue wildebeest in there. I believe these died out and were replaced with the 2 black wildebeest that are in the East Africa Reserve.

Yes when I went in 2015 there were blue wildebeest in with them and when I went in the summer of 2017 they were moved to the east africa reserve with the giraffes and zebras

Does anyone know why the rhinos aren't out in the big game park anymore with the camels ankole cattle and antelope because I haven't seen them out there since 2016 and also what happened to smithy the ostrich and haggis the ostriches

Lovely visit today. Highlight for me was seeing the two hippos grazing in their field - somthing I haven't seen since I was a kid!

In answer to a previous question about how many sealions are at the park they have; a young male called Memphis, 3 sisters (Buster's offspring, all born at the park) called Molly, Ru and Belle. Plus a new unrelated juvenile female called Ida.

Some notes:
- After 2 years, the lemur walkthrough has reopened. The somali sheep have also now moved in with the lemurs.
- The old somali sheep enclosure (prior to the sheep, it was the bottom half of wallaby wood) is getting ready for a new species, a pond has been built in there too.
- I only saw 0:2 blackbuck in the monkey drive through
- The family of rock hyrax's have moved into the second indoor enclosure in Jungle Kingdom (right of the Binturong.
- The kinkajou have moved to the old Hyrax enclosure in Animal Adventure
- The former armadillo enclosure is now home to 1 female prehensile tailed porcupine (the other female has passed) as well as 2 common marmosets that were being held off show. Both sides of the enclosure are now aviaries.
- Old butterfly/mammal house still shut for maintenance but lots of noise from the parrots coming from inside.
- The koala joey is growing up fast and looking healthy
- Some maintenance has gone on in Jungle Kingdom updating some of the barrier styles.

Side note, I bumped into Viscountess Emma Weymouth the Marchioness of Bath today too and she was lovely and was more than happy to have a quick chat!

Thank you but I was reading last years thread and apparently the kinkajous were meant to be permanently moving into the old indoor coati enclosure and would have access to the overhead tunnel

That was me that posted that as that’s what I was told. As always, plans change. The hyrax are now in there and the kinkajou where the hyrax were.

I'm thinking about visiting Longleat for the first time in over 10 years very soon but I have a few questions.

. How visible are the giraffes this time of year if at all?

. How visible are the koalas?

. Is it good for photography? (I'm fairly new to photography and if anyone could give any tips for longleat I'd really appreciate it)

. Is the boat ride on half mile pond running at the moment?

. Are there still hyenas and are they visible at all?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out.

This time of year, the giraffes are out in the main African reserve (they will be until about October).

The koalas are always visible both inside and out (there’s no glass inside either), except mum and Joey which have an off show indoor quarters.

The boat always runs! Hippos aren’t always guaranteed but the colobus, sea lions and the gorillas are usually viewable

The hyenas are much more confident than they were and are usually out and about. Make sure you’re in the left lane after the cheetah in order to get a good view :)
