Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2022

sorry was on my phone after watching there new animal park series on bbc 2 it paints the place badly

Went today, some notes:
- For the first time in 3 years, Anne the elephant was out on one of my visits. She was looking really well and healthy eating lots of grass out in her paddock.
- Longleat have 1:0 young capybara, who can be found in the African village in the former somali sheep enclosure. They plan to get a female and breed the species.
- After being inaccessible since covid, the beaded lizard enclosure by the parrots in Animal Adventure is now viewable again but the top now has glass and it is instead home to royal pythons. (Not sure where the beaded lizards have gone)
- Animal handling hall shut for refurbishment, from what I saw a fair bit of work is going on in there.
- Former butterfly/mammal house still shut (and missing half it's roof), the parrots are back outside in their former enclosure.
- Pancake tortoises have moved in with the hyrax in Jungle Kingdom
- Giant otter indoors is shut and the pool is drained as one of the glass panels on the pool has smashed
- Hazel, the joey koala is continuing to grow and is looking very healthy.

Are Capybara a new species or just fresh individuals?

Does anyone know when did the somali sheep leave or have they just moved home?

Glad to here you managed to see both Hazel & Anne,

Just been announced that Alpha female European wolf Eliska has sadly passed away. No mention as to cause of death.

Unsure how many wolves are left now as 0:4 (Eliska's daughters) were rehomed to Scotland in the last 12 months. The last 2 Canadian Timber wolves died last year (summer and October)
