Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2022

This really hasn't been a great year for longleat first losing their alpha pair of wolves and now losing a gorilla aswell hopefully things will get better by the end of the year

European grey wolf options:

That’s interesting. I guess the options from here are:

1. Transfer Hazel out and bring in new females
2. Transfer the males out and bring in a new male
3. Maintain a sibling pack with Hazel on contraception

With the alpha pair now deceased, the pack will already be reestablishing the hierarchy with Hazel (on contraception) and one of her brothers assuming the alpha role.

Ive only just found out that Megan is Chris Packham's step daughter and she has co hosted Springwatch/Autumnwatch.....I have to say she is a big improvement on Jean, knowlegable and keen to get hands on with all aspects of zoo life!

Could an option be moving the remaining males into the enclosure that the white wolves were in to live as a bachelor group, and bringing in a new female for Hazel.
 
With Django & Eliska's deaths and only one daughter remaining I don't know how many there are left in total.

This news is devastating. Evindi was extremely young, and at the prime of his life. It’s noteworthy that all of Harry and Lena’s offspring to die have been young.
 
With the passing of Evindi does anyone know how Alfie is? When Alfie still resided in Dublin he had a problem with his wrist and foot. Alfie’s wrist was turned inwards and he was walking on his big toe. Dublin Zoo carried out an MRI on Alfie. The MRI came back inconclusive. I would like to know if this problem was ever diagnosed or has returned.

There is also Meg, May and Lady in the other inclosure. Apprently theyre Hazel and the rest of the packs siblings according to Twitter.

Im suprised they arent mentioned on Animal Park and its made out Hazel is the only girl.

I thought that Meg, May and Lady had been transferred to another collection?

I asked on twitter who the ones behind the fence were and shared a picture and they came back and told me it was them 3. Youll be able to see the tweet on their page.
 
It was posted on Scottish Deer Centre social media page that they received 0:4 European wolves from Longleat. The names mentioned were Meg,Mel,May & Max
 
I had a great visit to Longleat on Friday. Some notes:
- In the Safari, the Secretary Birds have a brand new aviary opposite the pelicans. It was previously a run down shed where I believe new birds were quarantined.
- In Jungle Kingdom, there are baby rock hyrax!
- In Monkey Temple, cotton top tamarins have replaced the red handed tamarins in the aviary.
- In Animal Adventure, the red handed tamarins have replaced the marmosets in the shared enclosure with a prehensile tailed porcupine.
- Male and female sloth mixed in the sloth house (it's the former animal handling hall)
- Old butterfly/mammal house still closed and missing half it's roof.
- Indoor Giant Otter pool finally fixed and was being filled up
 
Interesting report were yuki and rusty still there and do you know if Hazel the koala joey will move to the main koala exhibit because I saw a post from in the summer where it said that Hazel and violet would be moving into the main house in he future once Hazel is big enough

And great to see that the secretary birds have a new home because they always looked very lost and unsettled when they were in the vulture aviary

Yes I was there last month when the Secretary Birds have moved to a brand new aviary
