Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2022

Interesting report were yuki and rusty still there and do you know if Hazel the koala joey will move to the main koala exhibit because I saw a post from in the summer where it said that Hazel and violet would be moving into the main house in he future once Hazel is big enough

And great to see that the secretary birds have a new home because they always looked very lost and unsettled when they were in the vulture aviary

Koalas remained unchanged as far as I saw. All 4 tigers present but each separate :)

Just got back from Longleat. The lights are amazing!

Dennis the koala is now in Violet/Hazel's little pen, Hazel, Violet and Maizie are where Dennis used to be and Burke has the other side.

I dont know how long ago they did this but Violet and Hazel were indoors and Maizie was outside. Im hoping she just likes it out there and its not that they don't all get on.

The giant otter bit still isnt open and didnt see them either but they could of been inside.

Ah that is really good. Did you had a brilliant time at Longleat ?

I did thank you.

Does anyone know if Maizie the koala has had a joey? Seen a pic on Instagram where someone claims she has but Im not entirely sure

Maizie does have a Joey, but it wasn’t common knowledge. It’s about 3/4 months old now, so can only imagine that it’s started sticking its head out and people are seeing it. Longleat had told people on VIP Koala Experiences but asked people not to post pictures on social media or mention it, as they were planning to do a feature on it at the Longleat at Xmas animal park specials.

Unless the person who has posted the picture has gone against what was asked at a VIP experience , and posted anyway, I can only assume the Joey is now showing.

I messaged one of the keepers last night and they were aware of the picture that had been posted, so Im assuming theyre okay with it.

They said theyre gonna make an announcement in the next week or so. Im suprised theyve let people do the experiance with Maizie. I would have thought theyd have used Dennis or Burke

Dennis is in the old pen where Hazel and Violet were. Burke is not a suitable Koala for the experiences.
I done it 2 weeks ago and got to hand feed Hazel and see her up close. The other participant then got to feed Violet.
After a while Maizie came down as well, but it's the only suitable exhibit to do the experience. They put it on for a few weeks with the festival of light as the joey wasn't showing yet. As far as I know, it has not been made available for 2023 yet.

I assume Burke is the father again?

I did it back in July. We were meant to feed Dennis but he was being lazy. So we went in the other side with Burke and Maizie.

Maizie came straight down for food, the keeper tried to entice Burke with it but again he muched prefered his sleep. Maizie was gorgeous though and has always been my favourite.

Oh so sad news the red panda cubs were found dead yesterday source is longleat instagram, potential hypothermia and not much feed from mum, this must be very upsetting for the keepers x
yes and the condolences and thoughts are with the keepers at this sad time

From Animal Park this morning it seems like Longleat are down to 0:3 Southern White Rhino. On the show it was mentioned they have 3 females and the youngest one was mentioned by name but no mention of the male or what happened to him.

I thought that aswell. I visited twice earlier on in the year and only saw 3 which I guess were females. I think it would make sense because the current enclosure isn't all that big and also they weren't using him for breeding as the females were in the Northern white rhino breeding programme.

Also no mention of Evindi when they were doing the gorilla article…unless I wasn’t listening properly!

I do hope this doesn’t start a trend of glossing over animal deaths, transfers etc. Some people become heavily invested in these programmes in the long term and Animal Park has always dealt with the hard-hitting stories very well.

I wonder if they’ll deal with the fate of the wolves this week? I imagine the red panda news won’t be covered until the summer series.

Maybe its wishful thinking on my part, but perhaps they're trying to keep the tone light and frothy due to it being a Christmas special? Talking about animal deaths would feel a bit odd against a backdrop of naff Christmas songs and keepers in daft hats.

Nobody's fault of course, as the programme would have been edited and signed off a while ago, but seeing those beautiful panda cubs yesterday was very tough.
