Looking for a bit of advice from a zoologist/zookeeper please =)

Ironic thing is, I am a researcher, but I am the keeper for my subjects, I have taken over their care and do the feeding and cleaning! That is rare though, I am a very hands on person and love looking after the primates.

In that case, YOU are "rare":D

Good thing no one has to pay me, because they couldn't afford what I am worth an hour! My monkey minions love me though, I work for cuddles.

So it's safe to say that anyone who sticks to zookeeping is definitely in it for the love of the job rather than the money, eh?

As for those brooms at Taronga, Steve, I'd forgotten about that!
(Years ago the keepers made their own brooms from tree branches.)

Zookeeping is not the profession for someone looking to get rich! Dedicated keepers are, however, some of the happiest people I've ever known. Many seem to have an inner peace when working with or talking about their animals. I know I'm darn near giddy when I get to spend time with my kangaroos instead of the piles of paperwork on my desk!

Rookeyper, you sound like a wonderful lady!

Where were you years ago when I was looking for the perfect woman?

(Oh that's right, you were on another continent!) :D
