The zoo announced via Twitter that a male southern pudu was born there on 12/19/2018 to first time parents Steph and Mario.

Anyone know where the Pudu are displayed? I was there in the early fall and don’t remember seeing them labeled anywhere so I’m wondering if I missed them.
What is the name of the baby pudu?

The Pudu are located in a roundhouse exhibit that is close by the Maned Wolf exhibit, and the Aldabra Tortoise exhibit.

Good to see that they acquired a male cassowary for breeding, although aren't zoos recommended to have one enclosure per bird? And that yard is already small...
Also glad to see the fish eagle getting transferred. Was that harpy eagle the only one they had? I really hope they acquire another one, or better yet a breeding pair. Considering how rare they are, though, I wouldn't be surprised if king vultures end up replacing them instead.
How many wallabies does the zoo have? I'm surprised they didn't lose one this month. It always seems like they lose one.

That’s funny you wrote that, I was just thinking they always seem to have wallaby birth or death every month!
All 5 mountain tapirs left in LA are related to each other. The 2 at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo are also not breeding. The SSP is managing the population until the current individuals are gone. No plans on importing new ones.
I’m not sure. I know that 6/7 are from the same pairing.
This is truly tragic news - such a wonderful and unique species. I suppose I'd better get to LA as soon as possible!...either that or Colombia
It appears the eagle-owls now on-exhibit at the LA Zoo are B. b. sibiricus, the Western Siberian Eagle-Owl.
