Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens Los Angeles Zoo News 2020

What information is out there on the zoo's maned wolves? I can't find anything. All I know is that they have a male from White Oak that arrived in 2018.

Well, without knowing the details (age of the gerenuks, bloodline-relationship, import/export restrictions because of covid-19, etc.) Berlin would have been the better place for them - also in regard to put the European stock on a bigger base.

I know that broadly speaking, the gerenuk ssp population is very male dominates, which is a particular issue because like many antelope species, 1.0 gerenuk can be housed with 0.2 or more females.

I fully agree. To get experience at more parks over here!

I have a wish they will renege and send them over to Europe. It would be nice to restart the old Frankfurt Zoo line with these NE African antelope. More zoos in Europe aka Berlins two parks would be most welcome. Antelope EAZA TAG watching!?

BTW: Berlin parks et al need unrelated females ....

Anyone got a inventory list for the zoo? They seem of of sold off alot of animals were lacking in Europe and would be interested to see the size of the holding they have.
Here is a ZooChat species list from 2015

I think your correct in trades between the EAZA and AZA. We need more trades between the US and Europe. It would be even better if we traded endemic species if the AZA has lifted their ban on European species. But there are still some species lacking in the US that are available in Europe and species available in the US and lacking in Europe.

Agree there should be more trades and Co operation between us and Europe. Keeping to breeding programs etc. Things like gerenuk I'd love to see over here but I believe it's only Berlin that keeps them

Some of this is on purpose. Ie why we have Matschie's Tree Kangaroo and Europe has Goodfellow's. They agreed to each focus on one. Similarly why would importing say Eurasian Beaver be a good move when we have American readily available.
Now for some other species we could certainly use some better cooperation, however the AZA doesn't manage what it has all that great so it seems.

Of course if there are spicific plans they need to be kept. But some animals would just be interesting to see here.

There are still interesting European species we don't have in American zoos and there are species of American animals that could become very interesting for European zoo visitors. I didn't know about Goodfellow's and matschies tree kangaroos that is very interesting and quite smart. But there are still species that one lacks that the other could have
