Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens Los Angeles Zoo News 2021

@Julio C Castro do you mean the giant anteaters occupied the old giant river otter exhibit or the new one in the rainforest of the americas? Cause I thought the otters were utilizing the old one?

The former giant river otter exhibit in the South America section next to the maned wolf. The otters in that pool were the older pups from the couple we have at the zoo and I think they were being kicked out by the parents and uncle as they grew up.

I think these are the two that are in Rhode Island now.

I didn’t know where they moved to, thank you! I knew they hadn’t been there in months and I think I did see them lastly a few months ago prior to the second closure. The giant anteater will gladly drink from their pool in the back and the anteater lives up the giant name

Well the brothers that are at Roger Williams have been there since late 2018, but they did come from LA.

I must’ve seen the parents in their former exhibit at the time, they did have the otter exhibit in ROTA under maintenance for their pools so I figured they were behind the scenes and the ones I’ve seen were the boys

It's also possible that the zoo has had to move on more otters since then.

February meeting minutes: https://s36593.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Zoo-Commission-minutes-Feb-2021.pdf Both of the female Hippos are going to be sent to other zoos. One is going to Disney's Animal Kingdom and the other is going to Honolulu Zoo. But they are listed in the zoos master plan.

Also, it looks like the zoo is not going to post their animal transactions on their site anymore. Personally, I am fine with this and I am not going to bother to ask them.

Looks like that Indian Rhino will be paired with Marshall, the young male birthed at Omaha a couple years ago. Wonder if this means Omaha will have to move the two parents or if they will just rotate them on exhibit. Currently there are two outdoor spaces that are separated for the most part that the previous breeding pair would be split between.

Well, it sounds like the rhino has been there for a while, I don't even remember Los Angeles having a Rhino after the last one died so I'm sure it's been worked out.
