Lotherton Hall Lotherton hall

I believe there is just one more in a private collection in Scotland. Thank you for the help.

I would be strongly disinclined to believe this, all things considered!

I can now confirm that Lotherton hall are constructing a nocturnal house! I have no idea of what species will be in it but I can say that it is where the small birds like finches used to be.

In other news, I don’t know whether the condors are still there as they were not present on Monday...

Not UK, or even Europe - but Dallas World Aquarium have two males :)

That'll be the collection out of Spix Guan then, sadly.....

Managed to visit this place last week. I was very surprised by the variety on show.

No red pandas that I could see and the nocturnal in house is shut (not sure if still building or if covid).

Just visited Lotherton today, mostly lovely visit!

the warty pig exhibit is nice, and the penguin exhibit is lovely, alongside the tapir and capybara, and flamingo and bird cages. The Mara were active, and there seemed to be a bird in the Andean Condor enclosure which I’m not quite sure on the species. I have a couple things to say though:

The Nocturnal House, to my taste, isn’t good at all, it looks like an old, dingy basement, with puddles on the stone floor. The Kinkajou was pacing around the window frames, and the North Luzon Giant Cloud Rat enclosure looked far too small, same with the Bats. There were loads of rats/mice in the Porcupine enclosure, which were also very off-putting, and in the Penguin enclosure, the water was unbelievably green and dirty.

It was a mostly good visit, but I feel like certain areas could be improved. ;)

They're getting behind on the plans they had for the Condor enclosure, the last one I think was Babs moved onto Harewood house in 2019. Found the plans on the council website but guessing it may have changed as its an old file "Phase 3- 2018/19 • Asia Involving significant re theming of existing exhibits development in this area will see the introduction of Red Panda along with the development of an Otter exhibit. • South American This area will display a wide range of species reflecting the incredible diversity to be found in this region. The existing condor aviary will be remodelled to house a group of woolly monkeys"

wow, woolly monkeys would be fantastic, only 9 collections in Europe, 2 in the UK!

I've never visited Lotherton despite it only being 35 minutes away. I was going to visit this weekend until I read that a lot of the collection is currently off-show due to development taking place. The entry fee has also gone up to £9.50.

I can't help but notice a lot of the plans mentioned in this topic never came to fruition, namely the red pandas and woolly monkeys.

Has anyone made a visit here recently? Is it still a worth a visit with all the development work going on? How much of the collection is on-show?

I was surprised the red pandas never materialised. There was also talk of a marmoset exhibit which I don't think ever came to fruition. The Nocturnal house was the last development I was aware of.

Was a lovely bird collection, can see why they opted to bring in mammals and change branding but I don't know what they have brought in that makes it different from most other small collections

I made a visit in Aug 22 and parts of the collection were shut then namely the walkthrough aviary but not the penguin walkthrough. I recall seeing some 30+ bird species with Angus (the Southern crested curassow) being the primary reason for visiting. The collection also has warty pigs, capybara, tapir, Goeldi's monkeys & a nocturnal house with kinkajou, Sebas short-tailed bats & Southern three-banded armadillos. I definitely recommend a visit and is an enjoyable couple of hours with a number of stand out bird species.

Saw a moustached laughingthrush (Lathocincla cineracea) signed today, but didn't see the individual in question. This is a pretty big rarity, for a pretty small wildlife park. Can anyone confirm that they have this bird in the collection?
