The Zoo has once again been targeted by IDA, being ranked at No. 5 on its worst zoos list. Among other things, they basically compared artificial insemination to rape and said Fitz wouldn't know the freedom of living in the wild (as if predators, disease, and risk of human encroachment are an essential part of freedom). Mind you, we should discuss the list's claims on its own thread, found here. Don't want to start off for Louisville fans too negative.

Saharan addax birth:

Louisville Zoo announces birth of female addax, naming contest coming soon

The Louisville Zoo welcomed its newest addition when a Saharan addax was born amid COVID-19 closures.

The calf, born May 8, is the 60th addax calf born at the Zoo since it first opened in 1969. It was born to mom Patella and sired by Laird. Saharan addax are considered critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Does the zoo still have a fur seal, or did she pass away?
According to the most recent MMIR I have from July 2020, the Louisville Zoo has the following seal and sea lions:

Harbor Seals:
Rojo
Oscar
Kash
Killion

Gray Seals:

The fur seal they had appears to have died 10/11/2011, a female named Rosi.

Thanks! They still have one listed on their USDA, which is odd; large mammal errors are quite rare on those. I couldn't find anything mentioning her death, so wasn't sure if she was maybe behind the scenes or something.

Say hello to Lee, a 20-year-old polar bear from the Columbus Zoo in Ohio.

He will eventually be on exhibit, rotating in the exhibit space with 8-year-old female polar bear Qannik.

Lee's move to the Louisville Zoo was part of the Species Survival Plan within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Is this with breeding and mating objectives in mind?

BTW: another no read for European readers. Signals of "bad request".

A Gray seal pup was born December 28:

Keeper staff reported that Rona is attentive with her first pup, and the first nursing at noon went well. The pup has been vocal and active, which indicates a healthy pup. The sex of the pup is currently unknown.

Eight seal pups have been born at the zoo, including twin seal pups in the 1970s.
