Or maybe the other female (Fossey) is still pregnant ... :D But I doubt it.
 
If he has succeeded in fathering a baby with the newer female 'Ali' but not before that with 'Fossey' it indicates Fossey for some reason may not breed with him(I have seen mating photos though) but sometimes a female will suddenly become pregnant after many years of non-breeding.
 
I am so happy for Kamba! :) She has had a miserable life with a few rays of light thanks to Leipzig Zoo and Prague Zoo. She is a wonderful "grandmother" and has looked after Moja, Tatu and Kiburi over the years. She is very fond of babies and I wish her the best. Prague Zoo will have a team of doctors to intervene in a specially built operating room just in case. I saw her a couple of months ago in Prague hugging Tatu tightly. She deserves to finally be a mother.

Seems like 'Kamba' is rather bearing out what I just said here!;)

I note 'Kamba' has had two unsuccessful births, in 2004, and 2007, so I hope that it goes better for her this time. A first successful baby from this wildcaught female at age forty would be a big plus.
 
What worries me is that she had a cardiac arrest and a still birth in 2007. I am concerned about her pregnancy but there will be a medical team on standby from the months of January and February.

She really adores little babies. She won't have her lunch in the backroom unless she is allowed to carry Kiburi on her back. Kamba is a valued member of the group as she always babysits the youngsters. She learnt some sign language in Leipzig and knows how to sigtn "I'm hungry". Her old zoo keeper from Leipzig came to visit her once. Kamba was delighted to see him but cried when he left. He told the zoo that he would not visit her again as it upset her. Anyway, it would be very nice to see her with a baby despite her old age. She turned 40 this year I think.
 
Female, Dalila at Gaiapark is pregnant and expected to give birth in January
 
Sorry I know people are a pain when they just ask questions rather than reading around but...I wondered what young gorillas they have at Stuttgart in the nursery and I just came across a mention of Upala on Flickr but googling finds old references.

Leipzig

After Zola (4 1/2) had to be taken out from the group, now it's 6yo Louna's turn. New silverback Abeeku (13) kept biting her over and again. She is already separated from the group.
Zola is in Rostock now but her life has not improved much. Her father Gorgo treats her very roughly, and her old (and severe) wounds are open again - or she got new ones. Gorgo has lost most of his family at the transfer, and next to his enclosure is the breeding group with two young females he could watch (the window is now covered with foil) and still can hear and smell.
Given the young age of the silverback, as well as of the two females, does anyone agree that Abeeku's transfer was an utter mistake? :mad:

I think the exchange of males at Leipzig may have been done too early, at least as far as the two younger females were concerned.. These two aged 4+ and 6 years are obviously still too young for breeding and maybe 'Abeeku' got frustrated and attacked them because of that, or to try and 'expel them from his group as having no immediate attraction/breeding potential for him. I don't know but it seems like a bad mess up.:(

At Rostock they now have two groups but one is headed by the 'retired' 'Gorgo' with the old female 'Bebe' but now with one of his own daughters added to it, presumably as a stopgap measure. She could later join the next door group but this has 'Assumbo' as group leader- he has a poor(handraised) background and later lived a miserable life, alone for many years, so I don't know what chance there is of him breeding now. And if the two groups are close in contact then its bound to raise stress levels and heighten the chance of the males redirecting aggression on their companions. Particularly 'Gorgo' who will be interested in the females next door and would naturally like to add them to 'his' group creating more frustration for him. Silverbacks with females living within close sight/sound of each other is never a good idea.. But if Assumbo fails to breed with them, maybe he will get his chance. ;) Not the best of set-ups.:(

These two are half-siblings, same father, different mothers.

Jim Davis Studbook lists 'Vana' as female. 'Gorillas Land' lists it as male.

'Gorillas Land' lists male 'Kumbuka' as being in London. He is still at Paignton Zoo.

Addition for London Zoo 'past deaths' female 'Diana'.

Additions for Bristol Zoo 'past deaths' m. Congo. f. Josephine. f. Susie. f. Gogal. m. Klaus. f. Undi. Also list of babies that died young too long to mention here.

Vana's sex was a typo, it is now changed and fixed.

About Kumbuka, we had two sources listing him at Zoological Society of London (one of them is Jim Davis Unofficial Studbook) and that is the reason because we listed him there too. Anyway, it is also fixed now.

I listed him in my family tree for London too, I thought he had already arrived there. Do you know when the transfer will be done? And pardon my confusion, but where is Kesho now? Still in London?

Kumbuka was supposed to move in September/October but it keeps being delayed. The latest that has been put out by Paignton is that he will move within a few months.

Kesho left London in July and is now part of the Longleat group of males.

Thanks for the upddate! Do you know why Kumbuka's transfer is being delayed? The reason can only be problems in ZSL I guess. - Kesho is in Longleat with his brothers, of course, it just had escaped my mind.
