For National Frog Month, Lowry is having its first Fairytales and Frogs event where kids come dressed as fairy tale characters and learn about frog conservation.

Good news!

What's the current situation with Royal Antelopes in the US? Don't hear about them much so I'm guessing they're not about in huge numbers.

I don't know that much about Royal Antelope in U.S. zoos, and didn't even see them when I went to Lowry Park last year. It's even harder to learn about what institutions they're in now that ISIS is down. The only recent Royal Antelope news I've heard besides this is a birth at the SD Zoo.

I'm afraid a keeper told me the Royal Antelope baby died.

The LA Zoo has had recent success breeding the small antelopes. In the last couple of years at least 2 have been born.

Thanks all - looks like a mixed picture for the moment then.

There are Marabou Stork chicks in Safari Africa.
Here's a video about how the zoo is training macaws for a free-flight experience where they will fly across the zoo on daily flight patterns.

There are Roseate Spoonbill hatchlings on the Florida Boardwalk.
Today is also Jamie the Indian Rhino's birthday.

How many female chimps will be at the zoo then? And why are they sending there only male chimp to another zoo? I doesn't make sense to me confused

I'm not sure, but the zoo's chimpanzees are non-breeding. If anything, the male's shipment is a better means for birth control.

Retract that those last few statements. Going back to Beardsley's posting - the male chimp relocating to Indiana is not the zoo's only male chimpanzee. The zoo did receive a new male chimp in the last few years, marking a return to breeding chimpanzees at the zoo.

Okay, Alex was relocated to Indiana as part of the SSP and because that zoo had a recently renovated chimp exhibit.
gerenuk- There is another male there? I thought Alex was the only male they had.

Alex was not just relocated as part of the SSP. When zoos are looking to relocate an individual animal, they consult with the SSP first to find available options within the AZA. It appears that the relocation of Alex may have more to do with the social dynamics of lowry's chimpanzee group.
