Alex was not just relocated as part of the SSP. When zoos are looking to relocate an individual animal, they consult with the SSP first to find available options within the AZA. It appears that the relocation of Alex may have more to do with the social dynamics of lowry's chimpanzee group.

His absence might have to do with the social dynamics of Lowry's other chimpanzees, but on their facebook it said that he was sent to form a new chimp group.

On a total side note from the current discussion: does anyone know anything about the elephant breeding program? I've been waiting for news since Sdudla came back in 2010... No news. Has anyone heard or noticed anything?

Two Babirusa piglets born overnight on Mother's Day have recently taken their first steps outside.

A new Koala will arrive at the zoo tomorrow. This means that the renovated Koala enclosure is now done, and I'm very interested if they created an outdoor feature of the exhibit.

Stingray Bay, the area where guests can pet Stingrays, is open after refurbishment.
After looking at some photos, it seems indeed Lowry has opened a new outdoor Koala exhibit as well, which I'm very pleased with. Let's just hope the outdoor exhibit is okay.

Thanks DejaVuKatz!:)
In addition, the male Koala from San Diego, Budaru, is now on exhibit daily in Wallaroo Station.:D Sounds like you'll have to make a visit to see him soon!
