DinoQuest will be returning to the zoo on March 1st. It will be called, DinoQuest 2.

They also added a Domestic Pig to Wallaroo Station, and might have removed American Crocodiles from Florida Boardwalk.
Visyan Warty Pigs seem to now share space with Malayan Tapirs, and a baby Mandrill might have been born. The first two statements about a pig and crocodiles come from seeing a new Domestic Pig animal page and seeing there is no longer an American Crocodile animal page. The latter two facts come from looking at the zoo's map. http://www.lowryparkzoo.com/_page_content/zoo_map/documents/Winter12Lowry_Map_Main_for_web.pdf

It just keeps getting better and better! In addition to the recent Pygmy Hippopotamus and African Elephant births, a male Okapi was born on January 6th, making him the first Lowry Park baby of the year! I will most likely be at the zoo in April, and it should probably prove to be an exciting visit with these 3 large mammal babies.

I hope mama and baby decide to venture out this week. If so, I should have a fantastic visit on Saturday!

The elephant calf has been named by the Reilly family in Swaziland, who donated the original 4 elephants that came to the zoo (one of them is the mother). She has been namd "Mpumi", which means success or acheivement in Swazi.

Sdudla, also at LPZ. The birth is significant because it is only his second calf. The other being Tonji at the Montgomery zoo.

It's also Mbali's first calf, and only the second calf born at LPZ (the other one, Tamani, was born in 2004, I believe, to Ellie. Father was Bulwalgi, back then at DAK, but now both father and son are at Birmingham.)

Thanks to blospz's review of Lowry Park (http://www.zoochat.com/22/lowry-park-zoo-review-winter-2013-a-306725/), I can confirm new things at the zoo.
The education department received another pair of New Guinea Singing Dogs, and they will rotate with the other pair between the education department and the main exhibit in Wallaroo Station.
Visyan Warty Pigs were moved to the tapir area, and are in the front area on the side of the exhibit. It seems they don't have access to the tapirs.
The zoo plans to acquire new birds and a new mammal to meet and greet visitors at the main entrance.
Again, thanks blospz!
Update: I just found out Lowry Park is the only institution in North America to house a breeding pair of Martial Eagles.

A baby T-Rex model is on display in the zoo's main entry plaza to promote DinoQuest, which opens in exactly 1 month.

A couple updates at the zoo. The raggiana BOP exhibit is getting renovated. The zoo no longer has blue duikers. The marabou Storks have a nest with eggs in it. The baby okapi is still not on exhibit yet. Alot of news with the Indian rhinos. The male and baby that was born in 2011 are leaving the zoo. The baby is going to central florida zoo and the male destination unknown yet. Also the female rhino is expecting a calf soon as well.

I'd imagine Zoo Miami as the destination of the male rhino but that's just speculation. I'd like to see him go to Cincinnati to breed, though.

Thank you very much for the update jusko! If I am able to get to Florida this year, hopefully the Okapi calf will be out for me. Glad to hear the Indian Rhino is expecting, and recently it's been great breeding for large mammals at Lowry Park (Pygmy Hippo, African Elephant, Okapi, and soon Indian Rhinoceros)!
In other news, the zoo's Facebook says another American Black Bear orphan named "Newberry" has come into the zoo and is getting along well with fellow orphan Blossom.

Two new Halflinger Ponies are at the zoo, and are in training to become ride animals. In the meantime, changes to the Pony Trek path are being made. The changes should be complete by spring.

I know at least two chicks have just hatched.

2 Roseate Spoonbills hatched recently.
EDIT: A 6 week-old Barn Owl is being raised in the Zooventures Outreach Department. Eventually the owl will be part of the Birds of Prey Show.
