Zoologischer Garten Magdeburg Magdeburg Zoo

Oh, okay. Does that one lend itself better for social distancing than the other houses? (I haven't been to Magdeburg myself, thus the questions)

In general are indoor exhibits closed in German zoos at the moment? Singapore has a travel arrangement with Germany so we may be able to visit and still get back into Singapore. The trip would mostly to reconnect with family in Europe we haven't seen in 3 years and who will travel to Germany. I have optimistic plans to see 8 zoos - Frankfurt, magdeburg, Leipzig, schonbeck, both in Berlin, wilhelma and hellabrunn.

Frankfurt is the only one I've previously seen since I've mostly seen those close to The Netherlands border. I want to see them but hate not to get the full experience too.

Berlin Tierpark has practically no restrictions.
Zoo Berlin has 3; Kiwi enclosure closed, pinguïn house closed (You can still kinda see the King and rockhopper penguins through the glass outer walls of the building) and pheasantry closed (but all animals there are viewable in their outdoor enclosures if they're outside. Face masks required in buildings.

It doesn't always seem completely logical what's closed and what's not. Slightly off-topic, I visited Westküstenpark this summer where all buildings were closed. The zoo has a few semi-indoor sheds with various aquariums and other exhibits for small animals. These sheds have no actual doors, just doorframes, and instead of blocking off the doorframes, they just hung ropes in front of them. The result: People crowded at the doorframes to look inside the sheds. It would have been much easier to socially distance if they actually let people inside the sheds.

I guess similar things may be happened at places like Magdeburg: People just crowd (without masks) at a tiny window to get a peek of whatever animals are inside which doesn't seem much safer than walking around inside the buildings (with masks).

In Tierpark it’s basically just the giraffe house closed, but you can see the naked mole rat exhibit from outside if you search for it

I don't really know much about how it is in the zoos you mentioned, but I've been to Frankfurt last year for a (unfortunately short) visit and everything was open, except the upper floor of the Exotarium due to construction work. Generally, the rules are totally different from one zoo to another, I guess because they are dependent on the rules of the local city and / or the local infection rate. Some zoos have all houses closed since early 2020, some have them all open for almost the entire time. And I would suggest to check if the zoo requires a prebooked online ticket, as that too is necessary sometimes.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Last I heard, the lemur walkthrough was still closed as a COVID precaution and hence the vontsira (whose exhibit is located within the walkthrough) are de-facto offshow.

I'll drop them an email and ask. I'll let you know the response.

Excellent news - hopefully I'll manage to see them sometime soonish then.
