On June 16 a male Mandrill baby was born in the new "Mandrill-house" .

Zoo hat neuen tierischen Plan

Just came across an article about the breeding of Blue-headed macaws at Zoo Magdeburg. Here a short summary :
2000 : 3 ( 1.2 ) confisticated animals arrived at the zoo
2006 : at the end of the year one female was seperated from the other 2
2007 : In Feb. 4 eggs were laid but no chicks hatched
- already a month later a second clutch was produced and 2 chicks were raised by the parents
2008 : 4 eggs laid but only 1 hatched and was raised
No information about the 2009 and 2010 breeding season.
2011 : 4 young raised, all males
2012 : 4.3 young raised, I guess from more then 1 pair
( I would be intrested in the results of 2009, 2010 and the years after 2012 )

New Master plan for Magdeburg Zoo was released, including lots of new species like Banteng, Bactrian deer, Urial, Babirusa, Bear macaque (share their enclosure with golden jackals), Lesser yellow-headed vulture, Tayra, Margay, Bush dog and Black-footed cat!

A new hope to save this critical endangered species from extinction-Congrates to Magdeburg. Hopefully they are pure bred.

Finally last I had heard, there was some doubt that this intended move would occur, so I am very pleased that this has now taken place - and not just because I have never seen this species and hoped to revisit Magdeburg sometime in the next year or two anyway!
